Les Dawson referred to this episode in his 1985 autobiography, "A Clown Too Many", hoping that it would develop into a series: "I taped a potential situation comedy called State of The Union for the BBC. It was a good idea and with excellent people such as Patsy Rowlands and Michael Robbins in it, I thought it a foregone conclusion. . . . It wasn't. The national papers slated it and me, and as a result, producer Ronnie Taylor and director John Ammonds lost interest. It did me good in a strange way to realise that not everything I undertook was bound to be an unqualified success; mind you it hurt to read the reviews."
