Listed in Guinness Book of World Records For spending 741 consecutive weeks in Billboard Top 200 and 26 years staggering in and out of the charts. According to the December 1, 2001 issue of Billboard, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon has been on the charts for an astounding 1,285 weeks. Its closest rival is James Taylor's Greatest Hits, checking in at 573 weeks on the chart. James can expect to reach Pink Floyd's record number in about 13 1/2 years.
Some of the profits from the album were invested in the making of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975).
Clare Torry provided improvised vocals on "The Great Gig in the Sky." All she was told was to think of sadness and death. She was embarrassed by her performance.... The band were speechless. Torry later sued the band for unpaid royalties, eventually scoring a songwriting credit on a 2006 live DVD.
Music and lyrics for the album were written in a 7 week period, and the first album that Roger Waters wrote all the lyrics.
On most CD pressings, a barely audible orchestral version of The Beatles' "Ticket to Ride" can be heard playing faintly over the closing heartbeat. It's believed the gaffe was a mastering error.
