The Canadian feature "Medium Raw: Night Of The Wolf", from the same creative team behind the 2007 feature "Dark Rising", stars Canadian actor William B. Davis ("X-Files") John Rhys Davies ("Lord of the Rings"), Mercedes McNab ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer") and WWE stars Jay Reso/Andrew "Test" Martin.
"...Not just another action thriller, 'Medium Raw' is also the diary of a marriage, having sprung from the mind of writer/director Andrew Cymek in 2001 at the request of producer/star Brigitte Kingsley. Brigitte promised Andrew that if he wrote something, she would produce it. Flash forward a few years and the newlyweds have just spent their honeymoon money on the opening scenes of what will become 'Medium Raw'..."
"Where there is a will, there is a way and I am nothing if not persistent," said Kingsley, who not only starred in and produced "Medium Raw", but is now head of production at Black Walk.

One might walk into a "vampire musical comedy" with some degree of skepticism, and I say this because I sure as hell walked into a new flick called Suck with my pencil already sharpened. "The movie Suck ... sure does!" is what I was going to say, because I am clever. "Thanks for naming your movie Suck, fellas, because you just wrote my review for me!" (Man, what wordsmiths us film critics am!) But then the lights went down and I noticed the name Rob Stefaniuk, which I remembered because A) it's kind of a funny name, and B) I once saw a film of his at the Toronto Film Festival. It was a broad Canadian comedy called Phil the Alien, which I enjoyed well enough without exactly falling in love with it. So...

Attention: Twilight fans! Er, make that Shaun of the Dead fans. Actually, it's hard to tell what the target audience is for the Canadian horror-comedy Suck, but there's a good bet this independent movie will appeal to those who like a little blood with their tongue-in-cheek.
Written and directed by Rob Stefaniuk (Phil the Alien), who also stars in the movie, Suck centers on a struggling rock band that discovers that becoming vampires can help them succeed ... if they can stay ahead of vampire-hunter Eddie Van Helsing (played by Malcolm McDowell). Suck also stars Jessica Paré and Dave Foley, with cameo appearances by rockers such as Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, and Henry Rollins.
Suck premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival and will be making its U.S. debut March 17th at the South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.

New York's Museum of Modern Arts (MoMA), in association with Telefilm Canada, will organize the seventh annual Canadian Front. This event will be held from March 17 to March 24, 2010. Moreover, New Yorkers will have the chance to see nine Canadian films.
Obviously, this event should help Canadian films to find a U.S. distributor and allow New Yorkers to see Canadian films that were completed over the last 18 months. As a matter of fact, it was the Canadian Front event that allowed Bruce McDonald's brilliant zombie film Pontypool to be distributed in the USA by IFC Films for instance.
This year, the Canadian Front has in store two comedies, two dramas, two coming-of-age stories, two documentaries and an old classic. Speaking about that classic, the film in question was directed by Allan King, a Canadian director who left us in June 2009 and whose work was the subject of a MoMA retrospective in 2007. So,...

Some of the most fun I had in a theatre last year came late in the year while at the Whistler film festival. The film screening that night to a full house was none other than Rob Stefaniuk's vampire musical comedy mash-up Suck (review). Admittedly, everyone there had an idea that they were in for something a little off the wall but it's doubtful anyone expected Stefaniuk's newest film to be fabulous.
The director whose Phil the Alien brought him some attention for its wacky, off the wall craziness, goes above and beyond with this mix of animation, cheesiness and catchy music. The film stars Stefaniuk as Joey, the leader of a mediocre band with a super hot bassist names Jennifer played by the (stretch a little people) super hot Jessica Paré. The band seems to be going nowhere fast when is turned into a vampire and all of a sudden,...

The first time I heard the name Rob Stefaniuk was in conjunction with Phil the Alien, a little Canadian film which was described as “seriously bent.” Anyone familiar with that project may think they know what to expect with Stefaniuk’s directorial follow-up and though they may be prepared for the zaniness, they’re probably not ready for the sheer awesomeness of Suck.
Written, directed and starring Stefaniuk, it’s the story of a band trying to make it in the hard knock music industry. They’re sound isn’t bad but The Winners, led by Joey (Stefaniuk) are playing dives and going no where fast. So fast in fact that they’re manager (Dave Foley thankfully wearing pants for his entire appearance in this film) is asking to be relieved of...

Hnr's Michael Stevens reporting from Toronto... A party at the Gat's Yorkville headquarters, September 11, honouring cast and crew before the Tiff 2009 world premiere screening of the new rock 'n roll vampire movie Suck, was followed by a gala concert/party at Toronto's Phoenix Theatre, celebrating the recent Us/International sales acquisition by Tim Brown's Joker Films of the $3.5 million, Toronto-lensed feature, written, directed and starring Rob "Phil The Alien" Stefaniuk. "I am thrilled to be a part of the film Suck," said Brown. "Rob Stefaniuk is a tremendously talented writer/director/actor who has put together an enormously entertaining movie that audiences are going to love.. "...Seemingly doomed to road trip doldrums and dives, the band 'The Winners' breaks its slump when its female bass player (Jessica Paré) disappears one night with a hip vampire. Hnr's Michael Stevens reporting from Toronto... As Sneak Peek first reported December 2008, the Toronto-lensed horror comedy feature Suck from Capri Vision Inc., a division of Capri Films, is written/directed by Canadian musician/actor Rob "Phil The Alien" Stefaniuk, featuring acting turns from rockers Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins and Moby, following a group of rock Â.n. roll wannabes in search of immortality and a record deal. "...Seemingly doomed to roadtrip doldrums and dives, the band 'The Winners' break their slump when their female bass player disappears one night with a studly, stylin. vampire. She returns charged with sexual charisma that creates audience frenzy and eventually ensnares the rest of the band. Their 'hook' launches them to fame. But fame turns out to be a different kind of Hell than AC/DC promised. Following an 'incident' on a national radio show with 'Rockn. Roger', The Winners hit mega-stardom beyond their wildest dreams.

Oh, Rob, you take a mighty big risk giving your sophomore film a title like Suck. Either you are supremely confident or supremely foolish ... and my money is on confident.
Canada’s Rob Stefaniuk earned himself a small but dedicated cult with his debut scifi comedy - Phil The Alien - a cult which he now looks ready to expand upon with his sophomore film Suck, a vampire comedy slated to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. And it’s not just any rock and roll comedy, either ... no, this one boasts songs written by Stefaniuk himself, a soundtrack by John Kastner from The Asexuals and The Doughboys - who you probably don’t know but are very, very good nonetheless - and cameo appearances by Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Carol Pope, Henry Rollins and Moby along with the likes of Malcolm McDowell. Stunt casting? Hell,...

We just got in the first pic!
“Chicks dig me,” sneers Beef (Moby), the shaven-headed self-proclaimed “biggest rock star in Buffalo” as he pushes aside Hugo (Chris Ratz), the spindly roadie for down-and-out rock band The Winners. Marching to his doom down a filthy corridor leading to the dimly lit motel room where the cold white embrace of Jennifer (Jessica Paré), The Winners’ incandescently beautiful bass player, awaits him, Beef will find that while chicks may dig him, this one will love him to death.
And even beyond death. As the phrase goes, rock and roll is indeed a vicious game.
This week, filming will wrap on the Toronto set of Capri Films’ Suck, with Fango having enjoyed unprecedented access, totaling 17 days of the 20-day shoot. Writer/director Rob (Phil The Alien) Stefaniuk, who also stars as the band’s frontman Joey, hopes to bypass the curse of “vampire rock...
