Tropical Surrealistic Delirium
claudio_carvalho25 November 2004
In São Paulo, the retired comedian Felício Barreto (Juca de Oliveira) is informed that his former wife and great love of his life Paloma (Drica Moraes) died. He quitted his career when his also comedian partner Mandarim (José Wilker) committed suicide, after being lover of Paloma and betraying their friendship. Felício lives with the ghost of Mandarim. When he receives the news that he has serious heart problems, he decides to go to the North and Northeast of Brazil, searching the great comedian Boca Pura (Aramis Trindade), believing that with him, he could return to his successful career and joyful life. In Fortaleza, Ceará, with the support of Jajá (José Dumont) and Rafa (Tiago Moraes), he meets the model Estrela da Luz (Regiane Alves) and he believes that she is Esther, the daughter of Paloma with Mandarim. 'Onde Anda Você' is a tropical surrealistic delirium showed in a movie full of good intentions. However, the story about a man, in the end of his life, looking for his lost dreams, does not work well and in many parts it is very boring indeed. The photography is very beautiful, especially in the dunes; the soundtrack has excellent moments, highlighting the 'Hungarian Dance' of Brahms. The opening screening of 'Onde Anda Você' was in the Olympia Theater, at 'The 2004 Miami International Film Festival'. Although I have not liked this movie, I believe that it deserves to be watched overseas, at least because of the beauties of Brazil and Regiane Alves. My vote is five.

Title (Brazil): 'Onde Anda Você' (not literally, but meaning 'Where Are You?')
