X Factor contestant Mary Byrne has admitted that she wasn’t surprised to be in the bottom two on Sunday night’s show.
The Dublin singer found herself in the sing off against fellow over 28s singer Wagner Carillho on the results show, but was unanimously saved by all four judges.
Speaking on The Derek Mooney show yesterday about singing Shirley Bassey’s ‘This Is My Life’ for the panel, Mary admitted:
I was kind of glad to be in the bottom two to see how the others felt. I was also glad to get the chance to sing that song, because that is such a beautiful song and I had to put everything I had into it and I enjoyed it so much.
I was expecting it because of how the votes had been going and I didn’t mind, because I knew, that I still had the vote...

X Factor contestant Mary Byrne has admitted that she didn’t like going up against Wagner Carillho on last night’s results show.
The Dublin mum of one found herself in the bottom three yesterday and after Katie Waissel was eliminated, performed Shirley Bassey’s ‘This Is My Life’ in the sing off and was saved by all of the judging panel.
Speaking to Konnie Huq on The Xtra Factor, the 51 year old said:
“I wasn’t even thinking about whether I was up against Wagner. I am fond of Wagner – I like him, he’s a nice guy.
“We were both hoping that we’d be saved, but as you know they can only save one person and I’m grateful they saved me, but I love Wagner.”
Byrne also admitted that she didn’t take the sing off in her stride and struggled at times to complete the song.

Katie Waissel and Wagner Fiuza-Carrilho have been eliminated from ‘The X Factor’.
Controversial Katie – who was in the bottom two of the show five times in total – received the least number of votes on last night’s results show (28.11.10) and was automatically removed from the TV talent show.
Wagner and former supermarket worker Mary Byrne then had a sing off to reveal who would be leaving the competition next, with the long-haired Brazilian performing a rendition of Nat King Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’ while the Irishwoman sang ‘This Is My Life’ by Shirley Bassey.
Louis Walsh – who mentored both the acts in the sing-off – was asked to vote first and opted to save Mary, noting the high importance of singing to her.
He said: “Mary, this is your life, so the act I am choosing to send home tonight is Wagner.”
Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole followed suit, leading to Wagner leaving the show.

Wagner Carillho has narrowly missed the chance to perform on The X Factor semi final next week.
The Brazilian star was finally voted off the ITV show tonight, after being placed in the bottom three with Mary Byrne and Katie Waissel. Controversial Katie was eliminated and so Wagner sang for survival against his fellow over 28 singer.
Wags sang first and for his save me song, chose to croon Unforgettable by Nat King Cole. It was a pleasant change from the huge dance numbers that Louis has forced upon him to date but really, his rendition provided Mary with no competition at all. We suppose the words did have some poignancy though……after all who could forget the larger than life Wagner?

The nations favourite Grandma Janey Cutler made her much anticipated return to Britain’s Got Talent tonight.
The Scottish 81 year old started singing when she was 6 in the Salvation Army. However, since then she did not sing again until she was 50 when a friend made her get up in a local pub and sing. Janey hasn’t stopped singing since and has been singing in local pubs, clubs and village halls for the past 30 years. Simon Cowell gave her 3,003 yes’s after her audition in Glasgow.
We were a little worried that Janey wouldn’t be able to live up to the hype she caused after her first audition. Could she make the same impact tonight? Could she choose as good a song? All our fingers were crossed!
She emerged onto the stage in a very dramatic fashion, helped by two very handsome young men. The sombre faced nan then...
