A small dog left at home for the day has fun on his own.
Gabe-2922 November 2005
Of the many short films by students that I get to see at festivals and through friends, this little film has always stood out for me because it does so many things right as a short film. First and foremost it tells a story VISUALLY and uses only a hint of dialogue. It also is visually fun and creates a full well rendered character out of it's small canine lead, something many big Hollywood films with animals fail to do. From a sheer entertainment standpoint is pure fun to watch. I found myself laughing through out and I am always showing it to friends when the discussion of fun short films comes up. Technically the filmmakers do a GREAT JOB with shot selection, editing and music. This film is a great example of how a great short film can be made with the simplest of setting and resources. Great job guys!!!

Love Garpenfargle

I was surprised and delighted with this movie. I saw it at the Alice Film Festival and was not expecting the fresh take on dog behavior in such a simple and perfect story. The expressions that were captured on film, and the editing to show those particular expressions of the dog were flawless and perfect. The entire movie was very endearing and cute in an un-cute way if that makes sense? This was not a carebears or cutsy film, but genuine and real - exactly how a small dog behaves and capturing what makes everyone fall in love with dogs like that. I loved the scene of Hobbes looking out at the kids playing and barking - it really was like you were seeing what he was seeing....at least how it was portrayed. I recommend that anyone who has an opportunity to see this film at any film festival do so - you will not be disappointed, it has a way of reaching into the most cynical of hearts and touching something genuine.

Another great short from Kersey!

Yes, it's a strange name for a film, but you will understand once you've seen it, and I recommend you do try to see it, it's a hilarious look at what one dog, Hobbes, chooses to do with his "alone time," but it's not his fault... there is a little bit of a communication barrier between Hobbes and his master.

Dog owners in particular will love it, but everyone I've shown the film to has found it quite funny and entertaining. A great musical score, fine camera work and editing, and the cutest movie star to come along since little Drew Barrymore...

Garpenfargle rocks!

You're gonna need a bigger director...

The movie makers have created a masterpiece. Of course, that was their intent.

The clever take on a dogs life (my dogs would never..ever...ever behave that way..) while his master is gone (thus...masterpeice)is good, rollicking (is that still a word?)fun! All dog lovers and owners will appreciate the director's eye for detail and sense of humor.

Genuine and charming, well-paced and with some depth, Garpenfargle has upended much more acknowledged movies. The standard of this high brow humor (with an ironic, twisty, low-brow sensibility) is the ending where the director's(?!?) arms show the "contain and control" method of how Garpenfargle's main star works! Bravo to Bill and Edward for a wonderful time and excellent picture! I'd recommend this as a gift for anyone who loves dogs, or people...or trash and tennis shoes...

I look forward to this talent hitting the big screen in the future...They're bound to have great success.

Garpenfargle Rocks!

I saw Garpenfargle at the San Fernando Valley Film Festival in April and I absolutely loved it. It's a short film about a dog named Hobbes and what he does in his house when his owner isn't there. I have often thought about what my pets do when I'm gone. Garpenfargle turns that concept into a hilarious short. Everyone who sees this film will laugh out loud. I want a dog like Hobbes. Too funny. Anyway, being a film student I enjoyed the low-angle shots to show the story through Hobbes eyes. I liked how the audience never sees the owners face. Little details like that make this movie more enjoyable to watch. To sum it up, I love Garpenfargle, and everyone who sees it will too.

I had to watch this one twice to make sure I hadn't missed something...

When I looked over the distribution of scores for this film as well as the tremendously glowing review for this independent short, I assumed it was a film of greatness or at least near-greatness. So when I saw the film I was left totally perplexed. Hadn't I just seen a film where, for the most part, a cute dog runs around the apartment doing doggy things. During the film he chews on a shoe and knocks over the garbage and he's an adorable looking dog. However, I have exactly the same thing going on at my house with my dog. He loves garbage and he's very cute, so what's the point?! Seeing this is like watching "The Puppy Bowl" on the Animal Planet channel on cable TV. Sure, the camera work is decent but that and a cute dog don't make a story worthy of such accolades. I even watched it twice to make sure I wasn't missing something--which I apparently wasn't.

For die-hard pet lovers only, and I am not talking about the average pet owner but those people who are obsessed with dogs.
