The only game of the Kirby franchise to be released on the Nintendo GameCube as well as the last game of the franchise to be released on a home console until Kirby's Epic Yarn (2010) released 7 years later, as another Kirby game which was planned for a release in late 2006 was going to be released on the Nintendo GameCube but was cancelled in favor of titles for the Wii.
The third Kirby game to release in June after Kirby Super Star (1996) and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (2000).
On the Japanese game's box cover, Kirby has a "happy" look on his face. In the western game's box cover, he has an "angry" look on his face.
The game features one of the largest debug modes found on the GameCube. It has a wealth of debugging features which provide extensive information on how the game was made.
