Teenager, Anna Blake is tempted out of her sheltered life by the desire to understand more about her father, who lives with his new partner in Hampstead, London after abandoning the family when Anna was a young girl. She finds the courage to visit him and is seduced by the sophistication of his lifestyle with a woman more glamorous than her mother. With new-found confidence she visits Maurice, her older brother, at his university digs in the city of Bath's Royal Crescent. Here she meets and falls in love with Jake Staveley, her brother's promiscuous flat mate.
