Pretty good Swedish crime film!
lilla_lisa2 June 2006
This film is based upon the book with the same name, by Håkan Nesser, one of Swedens most appreciated "crime-authors". The movie is a part of a series of six movies shot in eight months, all based on Nesser-books, but you don't have to have read or seen any of them before to enjoy this one.

I read the book a couple of years ago and really liked it, so I was looking forward to this one. It has potential on the paper, a good story and good actors, Sven Wollter as Van Veeteren and Peter Andersson are always worth seeing.

Carambole is the story of a doctor, in love and happy, who one rainy night accidentally hits a young boy with his car and drives away when he sees the boy is dead. Some days later he receives a letter telling him that someone knows what he did, and want money for his silence. And after that it just gets messier for the good doctor.

As kind of a side story, we get to follow the retired officer Van Veeteren and his struggle to solve the murder of his son and get to know his pregnant daughter-in-law.

Carambole is a dark story. It focuses more on the feelings of the characters than the action and mysteries, and that is what makes it good. I really cared for the people, and from that you really care about the story and the ending (which I didn't care much for, but I won't say anything about it). Sven Wollter and Kajsa Reingardt both do a brilliant job. It is a movie well worth watching!!!
