Trivia

The show is based on a short film Tom Goes to the Mayor (2002) by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim which appeared in independent film festivals as well as on Tim and Eric's website. Tim and Eric sent copies of the short to a few of their favorite comedians including Bob Odenkirk who liked it so much he showed it to David Cross. Cross later made a cameo in the sequel Tom Goes to the Mayor Returns (2003). Odenkirk later worked with Tim and Eric to develop the short into a series. See more »

Quotes

Tom Peters: I had just an idea I wanted to run past you about children's safety...
The Mayor: That's interesting, Tom. I just had a meeting with my TV about that. Let me hear your thoughts.
Tom Peters: Well, uh, child safety, uh, right... the first and, uh, last step is to establish a perimeter surrounding our, you know, parks and zoos and, uh, nurseries, and day-care centers, and elementary...
The Mayor: Bear traps.
Tom Peters: [long pause] Uh... uh, okay, uh...
The Mayor: You're talking about using bear traps to surround these safe zones, right? I love it.
Tom Peters: Well...

Original animation with unmistakable adult swim style
17 December 2004 | by The_Cackling_StumpSee all my reviews

Tom goes to the Mayor relates the saga of Tom Peters, a man who has countless of ideas to improve his new hometown, Jefferton, ideas that are repeatedly botched by the mayor of Jefferton(known only as the mayor).

I wasn't too enthusiastic about this show when it first came on, but the unique animation and the antics of the danger-t-himself-and-society mayor of Jefferton are growing on me. This show has traditional adult swim style, with crazy random comedic plots and the total ability to pull on the funny bone. The only problem I'm starting to have is feeling sorry for Tom, who starts out with ideas that are genuinely good but is constantly thwarted by the mayors stupidity, how many episodes can come out of this before it gets too tiring? But this is only the beginning, I don't have much fear that the creators will not fail to dazzle us in upcoming episodes. I have that much faith in adult swim cartoons.
