Virus thriller Helix is back for season 2, and it's as problematic as its decidedly patchy first run...

2.1 San Jose
I’m not sure if I’d just missed the announcement or I’d subconsciously decided not to accept it, but Helix has returned.
It arrived like that knock at a Christmas family reunion, where at the door is a relative nobody likes. The choices are stark: hide well away from the windows, or confront the inevitable.
Having now seen San Jose, I made the wrong call when I went to the door.
Even before it started, having entitled it San Jose, I knew they’d put Do You Know The Way To San Jose by Dionne Warwick in there, and right after the compressed events of season 1, there it was.
The plot starts a few years after the first season and the implausible events of Artic Biosystems,...

1.13 Dans L'Ombre
It has been 48 hours since I watched Dans L'ombre, and I intentionally gave myself a cooling off time, before writing this. I can’t hold back any longer, this was a huge rebuff to anyone who was crazy enough to stick with this painfully irrational show.
What was obvious as I was watching it, and confirmed afterwards, was that Helix has a second season, and the writers knew this when they penned an abysmal ending to this one. Having created some narrative and tension about how things would end in the Arctic base, it was all blown up (literally and a narratively) like it’s been obvious it would be from the pilot onwards.
How this came about was stupid in the extreme,...

"Helix" ended its Season 1 with "Dans l'Ombre," a sometimes confusing and often surprising finale with more than one cliffhanger.
What is Julia doing with the silver-eyed people going into Season 2? Why exactly is Alan torturing people -- and does he know what Jules is up to? Who is Peter siding with these days? Will Sarah have her baby, and how weird is the kid going to be? Did Alan and the Cdc stop Narvik before it killed huge portions of the population?
And who survived the explosion at the Arctic base?
Related: Syfy renews "Helix" for Season 2.
It will be awhile before "Helix" returns to answer any of these questions. So, for now, cast your vote for which of the big cliffhangers was the most surprising?
