Well,....it's a start.

This is one of almost 100 shorts that were just posted on IMDb for viewing in the States.

EVASIVE MANEUVERS has a lot to like about it. The story is pretty interesting, the mood is generally very good and the CGI crash scenes are well done given the limited budget. My biggest complaint is that given that this was probably made as a college project, the actors appear to be way, way too young for the film. While you can't blame them for looking young and fresh-faced, this just didn't fit the tough mood of the film. Additionally, the helicopter crash seemed to strain credibility a bit too far.

But if you consider that this was made by inexperienced students, it's not bad. After all, Spielberg and the rest had to start somewhere. Just keep this in mind when you watch the film and don't be too critical. Heck, it's a lot better than most of us can do!!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie starts out on the right foot. It put the main character (Vic Gagne) into a situation that can be built upon. So many times audiences see shorts that let you down right after the opening sequence. In shorts, like this one, the film maker usually can't use more that one to three scenes (if the movie is under twenty-five to thirty minutes) to set up the main plot.

The next thing this movie does right is giving the characters believable dialoge. The two men are obviously not going to ask about one another's children or how the wife is doing.

The car chase that pretty much closes the movie is impressive. It isn't lame like you would expect from student film makers who just graduated from high school. The Dastoli brothers put a lot of thought into the sequence and didn't cut corners to get the movie completed early.

The only reason that I didn't give this movie 10 out of 10 stars is the fact that the chopper is taken down with an umbrella. That, to me, is unbelievable. Ergo, I give it 9 stars. Good job to the Dastoli's and keep up the good work.
