Boring police training film
lor_23 July 2010
Somethng Weird issued this ephemeral documentary as a bonus on its A Scream in the Streets DVD, and it is eminently skippable.

The overlong trainer was aimed at police to help educate them in the ways of identifying and apprehending criminals, obviously not meant for exhibition to the general public. On screen it is listed as #157 from Police Science Productions, an oxymoronic label. Judging from IMDb comments elsewhere, especially the infamous ignoramus from Louisville, I suspect there are clowns who would enjoy a marathon of sitting through all 157 plus.

Very repetitively we see a demonstration of good police procedure of how to search for a prowler, after a woman has reported seeing a suspicious guy through her window. Narration laboriously gives the fine points, most of which make common sense - on how to minimize all noise when approaching the scene so as not to tip off the suspect, and conversely make a racket when leaving to lull the dope into coming out of hiding for the subsequent stakeout. Everything is shown and repeated several times, making the 24-minute running time interminable.

For me it was instructive that the repeated use of "shakedown" meant roughly stop & frisk from a police point-of-view, when in common parlance the more criminal meaning of the term, to extort money from somebody, is better known.

Overall I found this film almost as interesting as the crap they show you when you're stuck on jury duty.
