Part IV. Scorched and battered by an alien atmosphere, the surviving ships of the Empirion Expedition finally reach a distant uncharted planet on which they hope to make their own. The plant appears desolate but a survey shows primitive life. The commander immediately orders they be wiped out under secret colonisation protocols but most crew are unaware of these protocols and refuse to follow orders. When the commander tries to have them expelled, mutiny breaks out.
It is going to be almost impossible to review this film without giving some spoilers; I will try but it might be worth bailing out now. Basically, in two minutes we are told the story of an alien race landing on a new planet to make it their own. The story is told in words on a black background intercut with the camera slowly pulling away from a close-up of a barren desert landscape. The story is told seriously with a sort of foreboding hum acting as the score of sorts it offers a serious bit of sci-fi and feels like the opening credits to a bigger film. However the film ends abruptly with such a sudden change of tone and unexpected sight gag that I really snorted out loud! It won't work twice and now that you know it is coming it'll not work as well as it did for me but it was clever and funny. The film clearly had zero money to work with and basically is just words and a close up of, well, that'd be totally spoiling it; but it does still work for what it is and has a real imagination and good delivery.
Overall this is a great little short for watching once. The delivery is good because it drew me in to the point where the comic ending is surprising and funny rather than silly. I don't know Janson but she did a really good job here with very little money, showing that imagination and talent is a lot more important than money even if a bit of all three is useful as well.
