Realizing what? That it sucks? Sorry, editorializing

This is the longest of the three featurettes on the 2-Disc Special Edition DVD of The Deer Hunter. It has a running time of 24 minutes. This consists of an interview with Michael Cimino, the director of the movie, intercut with clips from it. He talks about the making of the picture, from before production to screenings, and a lot of anecdotes and the like are shared. A pretty good amount of information for less than half an hour. However, and maybe this is at least partially because I disliked the flick itself, but the guy comes off as such a bastard. From one of the stories he tells, he may very well have gotten some innocent guy fired just because he thought that the first hour of the film might score higher than all three of them. Call me crazy... isn't it his responsibility to ensure that it's good enough? And if you're going to counter with something about it not necessarily being recognized, well, if he didn't think people were ready for it, why'd he do it and take so big risks on it, and why didn't he merely, I don't know, author a novel about the subject instead? What can I say, I agree with Jane Fonda. This is fairly concise and well-edited. There is a bit of strong language in this, and no real spoilers. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about the process of putting the thing together. 5/10
