A great example of the excesses of celebrity
trinityproductions-119 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary gives a unique insight to what happened in Ireland and particularly Dublin in the economic boom of the 'Celtic Tiger'in the 1990s. How the emerging wealth in the hands of the young generation caused a social change of attitude when €1000.00 Armani suits, expense accounts and fine dining were the norm du jour. When world famous celebrities rubbed shoulders with Dublin's social elite, Conrad Gallagher the worlds youngest Michelin Star winning Chef and one time personal chef to Donald Trump arrived back to Dublin in a fury of publicity. The celebrity chef revolutionised the culinary industry and became a media darling. The resulting publicity feuled his rapid growth to include 6 restaurants in Dublin and an A-List social circle that included Michael Flatley and U2 frontman Bono. As the demands of an evergrowing business and ever growing party life-style and expensive tastes collided, there was only ever going to be one loser, Conrad Gallaghers fall from grace and subsequent incarceration in Brooklyn's most notorious jail where mafia and al Queda criminals were housed is a tale that reads like a crime novel.

The best single profile documentary i have ever seen!
thefilmacademy7 September 2005
Watch this documentary if you ever get the chance. I saw this programed the SECOND time it aired on Irish Television. I had heard about it when it was screened the first time, as had everyone else in Ireland as Conrad Gallagher was front page news at the time... and still is on occasion, even though he now lives in South Africa! That is what a fascinating subject the man is.

I was expecting a programed that was would be full of celebrity types going on about the celebrity chef, given that most of Conrads headlines in the papers saw him draped around some super-model or the likes of Bono and Michael Flatley, however it was a brilliant viewpoint and insight into the man. I have no doubt that a film could be made about this guy's exploits around the globe. Some of the stories are right out of an episode of the sopranos.
