The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2004
jboothmillard2 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
If you are a fan of pub quizzes and have a good knowledge of the news events in the world, entertainment, TV, film, music, sport, technology and science, politics and much more in the year gone by, then this is a great show to watch and have fun with. Hosted by Jimmy Carr, with celebrity panellists in three teams: Jonathan Ross and June Sarpong (The Winners), Rob Brydon and David Walliams (BJ and the Bear), and Simon Pegg and Liza Tarbuck (Cut the Funk). This quiz focused on the year 2004, with all sorts of questions to answer about the past twelve months. These questions are asked as they are, with video and sound clips, with pictures (including Say What You See), and by celebrity and mystery guests on screen or in the studio, so it really does feel like a proper quiz that you can take part in. Events in the year 2004 that were questioned and joked about, and mentioned (or pictured) included: the disappearance of the Beagle 2 Mars probe, Steve Irwin dangling his baby next to a crocodile, Britney Spears getting married (twice), The Office winning two Golden Globes, the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" boob flash with Justin Timberlake, the gay kiss noise on The Archers, a German cannibal advertising to eat another man and his penis, 75% of the public not knowing which one is Ant and which one is Dec, the films Monster and Lost in Translation (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King also mentioned), the end of Sex and the City, Brian McFadden leaving Westlife, David Beckham intimately texting Rebecca Loos, Tyler Crotty yawning seen during a George W. Bush speech, Eamon and Frankie's F Word number one singles, the end of Friends, Piers Morgan sacked from the News of the World, Leslie Grantham having cybersex, Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsay, the death of Ronald Reagan, Derren Brown: Séance, Big Brother 5, Saddam Hussein captured, Sven Goran Eriksson having an affair with Faria Alam, Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon, Bowling for Columbine directed by Michael Moore, the Athens Olympics, Oprah Winfrey surprising everyone in her audience with a brand new car, Sir Elton John in Taiwan calling the paparazzi "rude vile pigs", Rebecca Loos masturbating a pig on The Farm, the deaths of Christopher Reeve and John Peel, Fidel Castro tripping over in Havana, Jimmi Harkishin aka Dev Alahan from Coronation Street shoplifting in Brent Cross, Christian nutter Chen Chung-ho trying to tell the lions "Jesus loves you", George W. Bush winning his second term as President of the United States against Dick Cheney, the recording of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid 20; I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! (the second of two series in the year), Barbie overtaken in sales by Bratz dolls and the BNP Christmas party a disaster when they hired a black DJ. Other celebrity and special mystery guests in the show included the children of Mitchell Brook Primary School in Neasden who act out well known news stories, Big Brother 5 winner Nadia Almada, Bo' Selecta's The Bear (Leigh Francis), Band Aid 20 singer Bono, Derren Brown, Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, double Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes and The X Factor judge Louis Walsh. The jokes and the questions are what make this show so much fun, they always choose the right celebrity panellists, and it also works as a funny way to reminisce on the recent events you remember for good or for bad, a great comedy quiz show. Very good!

I normally love this program, but this one was ruined by some idiot named june sarpong, obvious why she was partnered with Jonathon Ross, she couldn't contribute a single intelligent statement to save her life!
