Storyline

Paterson was born and raised in the rough area of Harlesden, London and, since becoming an actor, has decided to return to his streets with the message of Shakespeare. Setting himself a target of four weeks to cast, rehearse and direct a West End production of Romeo & Juliet, Paterson plans to show the world that Harlesden is not what people assume and prove that Shakespeare can be brought to any place, any people and any time by using a cast of all first time actors. In the background director Baz Luhrmann looks on and offers Paterson advice on how to bring Shakespeare alive for modern actors and audiences. Written by bob the moo

Teachers- see this movie
21 January 2009 | by segolily62See all my reviews

I saw this movie in one of my college Shakespeare classes. I was so impressed by the concept and the subsequent performance. I have recommended this movie to other English teachers as a must-see. It will rekindle their enthusiasm for Shakespeare. It is a wonderful movie to show in class, since seeing others succeed at Shakespeare is excellent motivation.

The director in this movie is the kind of person we all aspire to be; one who brings out the best in his actors. The movie was a realistic portrayal of the troubles and triumphs of performing Shakespeare. My favorite part of the movie is that the actors really didn't think Shakespeare was for them, and then did an excellent job.
