Despite being released on the European Commadore Amiga systems to be reviewed by all the magazines (where it generally received scores around 90-96% and 5/5) the makers of the game, System 3, cancelled its release and never explained why. In 1994 hundreds of eager gamers had pre-ordered the game after playing demos of Putty Squad which were made available through coverdisks on most Amiga magazines, but they never received the game. Amiga magazines were equally confused as to why it was cancelled as they couldn't detect any problems with the game. Oddly enough the game was released a year later in 1995 on the Super Famicon (SNES). The SNES version was identical to the Amiga version which adds more to the mystery. The copies the magazines were sent of the full game are believed to be the only full Amiga versions now in existence. In 1999 a company called Alive Mediasoft tried to release the Amiga version only to run into legal problems.
