The co-writer of this summer's smash hit Wonder Woman will be space folding into the Robotech franchise.
The Robotech movie just gained one hell of a super boost. Deadline reports that Jason Fuchs, credited for co-writing the story for Warner Bros' recent Wonder Woman film with Zach Snyder and Allan Heinsberg, is on board to write the Sony feature film based on the cult 80s anime series.
Besides Wonder Woman, Fuchs has also notably written Ice Age: Continental Drift and Pan.
Back in July when Andy Muschietti was attached to the project as director, no writer had been assigned but Sony was confidant he'd find someone. With Fuchs now on board the project can hopefully start moving forward. The film has been in development for quite a long time with various writers and directors attached, including James Wan before Muschietti was brought on.

The Robotech movie will now be directed by It helmed Andy Muschietti...
The Robotech movie just got a new infusion of protoculture. Andy Muschietti, director of the upcoming film version of It, has been set to take over Sony's adapation of the cult anime franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Muschietti will not only be directing but also has been tapped to develop the feature.
Barbara Muschietti joins Muschietti, alongside Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton in producing the movie.
Sony picked up the rights to Robotech back in 2015 and had originally attached James Wan to direct the franchise (he's busy with Aquaman right now, though). Currently, the Robotech film has no writer, but Sony believes the Muschiettis will find someone. According to THR, "the project is a high priority for the studio and it is moving quickly."
Muschietti began his career in horror films, making his English language debut with Mama.

To get the dates and details, as well as the update on the live-action theatrical release of Robotech (which isn't a lot), head over to AnimeMojo.com! In the mean time, we have the new trailer that Crackle released today which acts as an introduction to the entire three generation franchise. Originally released in 1985, Robotech is a sweeping science-fiction anime epic in which the human...

(Cbr) Fans of the 1980s anime "Robotech" can help bring a new generation of mechas to the small screen through a new Kickstarter that launched yesterday. Announced by producers Harmony Gold at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, "Robotech Academy" is based on an idea by Carl Macek, producer and story editor for the original "Robotech," who passed away in 2010. The new animated series would follow several new cadets in their adventures around the Robotech universe. “We’re thrilled to finally be able to tell the world about 'Robotech Academy',” Tommy Yune, president of animation for Harmony Gold, said in a press release. “Over the last few years, Harmony Gold has been working hard to answer fan demand for a new Robotech project. The next step involves fans, who will be instrumental in supporting a crowdfunded Robotech project and making series creator Carl Macek’s original vision for Robotech Academy a reality.

The Japanese love themselves some giant fighting robots, whether with humans inside controlling them or not, and while not quite as prolific as the Gundam series, Robotech was a Sci-Fi anime fixture unto itself in its own time. Having had the pleasure of burning through the entire series a couple years ago (after a childhood of scattered instances of exposure to the show), the chance to dive into the two newest chapters in the saga gave me the opportunity to see how 20 years of passed time would affect the animation’s aesthetic. The stories for Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles and Robotech: Live Love Alive might be relatively simplistic (met alien species, fight alien species towards one goal or another), but the appearance of the animation definitely benefits in key places while still doing its best to retain the classic anime look in others.

Moviefone's Top DVD of the Week
"Ginger & Rosa"
What's It About? Sally Potter's ("Orlando") film follows two inseparable teenage girls, Ginger (Elle Fanning) and Rosa (Alice Englert) during the onset of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1960s London. While Ginger's interests lie in protests and poetry, Rosa's are different, including Ginger's father (Alessandro Nivola).
Why We're In: While Fanning steals the film with a strong and powerful performance, "Ginger & Rosa" also has a largely talented cast including Annette Bening, Oliver Platt, Christina Hendricks, and Timothy Spall. Potter's film is both a moving, coming-of-age story as well as a detailed look at the politics and tension of the era.
Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week
"Pieta"
What's It About? From South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk, ("Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring"), "Pieta" is both a brutal and heartfelt story of an isolated, merciless loan shark who violently threatens his borrowers for payback money.

Remember Robotech? It’s that anime-mech series that was on cable or bootleg VHS back when you were too busy watching Transformers G1 and Voltron.
It’s a series that I always wanted to love, but found myself enjoying Gundam, and all its variations, much more. A&E and Lionsgate are bringing the series back with a two-disc set that includes The Shadow Chronicles and a new movie, entitled Love Live Alive.
Check out the box art below. It makes me nostalgic for Gundam. I still remember the first time I saw Jetfire introduced on Transformers. My friend said, “Hey that looks like Robotech.” And, I ignorantly responded, “They must of stole the style from Transformers just like Gobots.” Little did my younger self know the truth.
Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles and Love Live Alive will be released as a 2-disc set on July, 23, 2013. What say you: Transformers, Gundam, Robotech or Gobots?...

Not a lot has been heard from Jordan B. Gorfinkel, former DC editor and the mastermind behind Batman: No Man’s Land. His Avalanche Comics Entertainment operation has been doing some custom and corporate comics work while he continues to produce a weekly strip for Jewish newspapers. But, behind the scenes, he’s been slowly assembling this project which is finally coming out after way too many years. I’ve worked on it, I’ve read it, and I recommend it.
Here’s the official press release with the details:
May 23rd, 2012 – Los Angeles, CA – This June, Boom! Studios is proud to announce Michael Midas Champion by Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Scott Benefiel. Wrapping a classic fairy tale in superhero comic book clothing, Michael Midas Champion blends the heart of It’s A Wonderful Life, the majesty of The Princess Bride and the thrills of Spider-Man.

Carl Macek was a pioneer in the field of anime, serving as producer and story editor for the popular Robotech series from the mid-1980s.
Macek was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on September 21, 1951. He worked at California State University Fullerton as a librarian of popular culture, and co-editor of 1979’s McGill’s Survey of the Cinema and Film Noir-An Encyclopedic Reference to the American Style (1979). He also wrote the book The Art of Heavy Metal: Animation for the Eighties. He became involved with anime in 1985 when he revised and edited three separate Japanese anime series, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada, into a three-generation Robotech Wars storyline. The popular series was produced in 1985 by Harmony Gold in association with Tatsunoko Prod. Co., Ltd. Jason salutes Carl Macek, who died at the weekend. For he was the man that introduced him, and many others, to anime through Robotech...
I found out this morning that a pioneer in Japanese Animation passed away over the weekend. Carl Macek died on Saturday at the age of 59. Mr. Macek isn't a name many would recognize in the anime world, but if you live outside of Japan, he was very instrumental in introducing you to anime.
He is most famous (and sometimes hated) for his work on the series Robotech, which itself was a work created from three separate anime series: Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeda. His task was hardly simple, as he needed to, essentially, take three separate and unrelated series, and create an arc between them, to enable the show to have a long enough run for syndication, at the same time localizing it.
