Sex & Nudity

  • One of the child beauty contestants, about age 9, does a routine with music and moves that are mildly suggestive.
  • Grandpa refers to Frank as a "homo" and later uses the term "fag rag" for a gay porno magazine.
  • When they stop at a gas station convenience store, Grandpa tells Frank to get him some porn (adding that he wants the heavy duty stuff) and for Frank to get himself a "fag rag." We then see Frank looking over the magazine covers (with titles such as "Buns" and "Big Butts." Some of the women show cleavage and a few are seen in skimpy attire (such as bra and/or bikini tops), but there's no outright nudity.
  • In the background of a shot, we can see the image of a woman in a small bikini swimming laps in a pool (she's underwater and we can tell she's in a bikini, but can't see any details).
  • A man talks about f*cking a lot women. He then tells someone who is 15, that he should be f*ing those young jailbait girls.
  • There is a reference to second degree burns on a man's "Johnson" from sexual activity.
  • Characters look at porno magazines. The camera gives us a close up and we see on the top left a man and a woman having intercourse, on the top right a woman in black leather showing cleavage, on the bottom left another woman in black leather showing her entire butt, on the bottom right two women holding each other, and in the middle (the most noticeable) a woman wearing white underwear pulling her butt cheeks apart. This is very brief.
  • Some other moderate sexual references are made, mostly through conversation.

Violence & Gore

  • One man tackles another and they wrestle without coming to blows..

Profanity

  • There are 42 f-words used in this movie (3 used sexually, as is the term "getting any"), 3 "s" words, 1 slang term for male genitals ("Johnson"), 3 hells, 2 damns, 1 ass, 1 crap, 1 S.O.B., 4 uses of "G-damn," 3 of "Oh my God," 2 each of "Oh God" and "Oh Jesus" and 1 use each of "Christ," "For God's sake," "God," "Holy God Almighty" and "Swear to God."

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The mother smokes cigarettes briefly in two scenes.
  • We hear that Grandpa was kicked out of his retirement home due to his heroin use.
  • We see a still-sealed bottle of champagne in a man's store bag.
  • We see a photo of Frank and his former lover holding glasses of champagne.
  • Miscellaneous people have cocktails in a hotel.
  • Grandpa snorts heroin and then reacts to that.
  • We see an elderly man snort heroin.
  • There is conversation about heroin use. One character urges a teen not to start using it.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • No scary scenes, but some emotionally intense scenes
  • The family are running into a moving car. And Olive runs into a moving car as well. And the entire family are seen running into a moving car again.

  • It is implied that the grandpa is about to snort heroin. We later learn that he overdosed.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is an emotional scene where Dwayne finds out he is colourblind and because of this he cannot fly planes and jets (which was his dream). In this scene he breaks his vow of silence.
  • A character recounts a time when he went through a time of emotional stress and attempted suicide, it is not shown.
  • The grandfather overdoses on heroin and dies. We see the grandfather's body covered by linen.
  • The grandfather's body is taken from the hospital and hidden in the back of the van. This is not graphic and is portrayed as comical.
  • Dwayne finds out he is color blind and he freaks out. The family proceed to argue. This is a little intense.
