A worthy documentary of a basketball legend

Warning: Spoilers
The story behind David Thompson has been one of basketball's great neglected stories - until now. In a thorough and exhaustive study, cramming a feature's worth of information into an hour, Writer-Producer-Director Rick Clemens lays it all out, tracing DT's origins at North Carolina State, through his career highs in Denver, and his drug troubles and injury- capped downfall. All-new interviews with Michael Jordan and Bill Walton head up an all-star cast including such luminaries as Dr. J, Dennis Johnson, and Thompson himself.

Video of his stunning leaps are fleshed out with stunning photos that themselves are worth the price of entry - the Ken Burns style moves are evocative and draw you into the moment. Music and graphics are perfunctory, but do not distract. Basketball fans wishing to learn the origins of today's "above the rim" game are well advised to check this out, as well as old timers wanting a walk down memory lane. Jordan calls Thompson "my inspiration," and this documentary does a good job of showing why.
