This documentary is powerful and educational all in the one package. I am surprised no one has posted any user comments for this film and that it hasn't registered many votes. Possibly one of the most underrated documentaries ever made.
Just as one gets a feeling of despair that the human race is determined to strip the oceans bare, enter Paul Watson armed with only the Sea Shepherd to try and make a difference. What ensues is the most dramatic footage of Watson's tactical cat and mouse manoeuvres on the high seas, taunting vessels fishing illegally with banned drift nets. While the Sea Shepherd has no weapons, its bow is packed with concrete, making it an effective battering ram not to be messed with.
What distinguishes this documentary over other nature films, is the high drama that unfolds whenever Watson confronts a vessel fishing illegally. The subsequent stand-off is spectacular. Each manoeuvre requires precision timing, nerves of steel and all the time having to calculate what can be done to be a nuisance. The fact that one mistake could be extremely costly in terms of human lives makes it even more nerve racking.
The underlying theme is all to do with humanity's relentless pursuit of resources for profit and damn the consequences. This documentary may trigger a conscience for those who are unaware of the severe impacts the human species is placing on the world's ecosystems.
I therefore highly rate this documentary, which is not to be missed.
