Memento Mori
boblipton15 January 2020
A man kills a wealthy miser - frugal fellow, I like to think - and buries his corpse under a haystack. The murderer is haunted by the ghost of his victim....or is it his own conscience?

This late Zecca short - he would soon retreat from actual film making to serve solely as a company executive - is a surprisingly ambiguous piece, considering not only its Melies-style techniques, but its year of production. In strange contravention of the old saying that seeing is believing - and the cinema has long held that as its central tenet - the assortment of things that come to haunt the murderer are more than ghosts.
