Moved to Tears
dominoeplayer21 April 2006
I saw this movie at the Newport Beach Film Festival. It focuses on the plight of Central American immigrants trying to make their way through Mexico to the United States. This fact alone offers something significant, immigration extends well beyond US/Mexican border, which is a fact often overlooked in the conversation regarding immigration in the United States.

The film explores the stories of several immigrants. It probes the many challenges: transportation, gangs, corruption, family ties, health issues, and more. Just when you are at the breaking point of despair it also shows compassion.

The most poignant moments for me were our glimpses into "Atras" or behind, where the remainder of families stay.

I recommend this film for anyone interested in learning more about the human side of immigration.

A side of immigration most Americans don't know exists
wildsp18712 March 2007
Being the girlfriend of an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, it was incredible to see the plight of Central Americans making their way through Mexico themselves. I was unaware of this situation and feel completely enlightened by this moving documentary. Words cannot express the depth of human emotion I feel at this moment. I do what I can to help my boyfriend but I never truly realized just how deep of a sacrifice these immigrants make in an effort to better the lives of their families... Even now I can't my words fail me... Absolutely incredible.. My ancestors arrived from England in 1682 and it wasn't easy for them then.. its understandable that the situation would not have changed. Perhaps this is what life is truly about.. the betterment of ones self and the lives of their family.. these people just have the courage to go out and get it.

It's precise and precious

you will find here the future of humanist movies, it's really sensitive. there's no documentary films like this in Latin America, and it's very hard to find something more impressive than this one. you must be very careful to don't miss any detail of the dialogs, because they express the inside mind of the reality. Great dedication and persistence are needed to realize a film like this one, with such a particular subject, poorly boarded until now. you'll see the first interview and you will start to feel this impotence in your stomach that will make you wonder what happened with human race?, when we became like this?, why are we doing what we do?, where are we going now?... surely this crew will surprise us with more histories like this one in few months.

It's Us vs. Them and yet we are all Americans

Warning: Spoilers
Immigration is on the news daily but we only view one side. Our side, U.S.A. We hear and read about the countless deportees but they are nameless and faceless. We are detached and don't care. This film shows us a face and gives us a name. We all came to be in the U.S. thanks to our ancestors yet we have forgotten their struggle to get here. In this film we see what is shielded from us. Is not a simple journey and it doesn't involve just crossing a border. If one must find an answer to the battle of illegal immigrants one must go to the source. It starts in the migrants country and continues through Mexico and ends in the U.S. Along this road we've forgotten what it's like to be human, because we live in the land of opportunity, we feel it's ours and we must close the doors to the illegals while at the same time we ignore the real issue. Poverty. We should be ashame, as Americans, because America is a continent not just one country. Instead of attacking why not lend a hand? Instead of hating on the basis of race lets help each other in the name of humanity.
