The voting body that makes up the Academy of Motion Picture Arts in Sciences announced the newest slate of members it has invited to join the prestigious group, who, among other things, are the people responsible for determining Academy Award nominees and winners.
Each year, the Academy gets its share of flack around awards season when the hip, indie flicks get shut out of traditional categories with many lamenting the so-called “boys club” and “old white men” that make up the majority of the membership body. The Academy certainly looks to be freshening up its image with the latest crop of member inductees who are younger and more diverse than seemingly ever.
New Academy members cover a multitude of categories including actors, directors, editors, musicians and composers, casting directors, producers, documentarians, and more groups that cover all branches of the awards categories.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has announced its screen nominees for the year. As always, certain films were ineligible with the WGA due to signatory issues. Examples this year which could still make a play at Oscar recognition include "Amour," "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," "Django Unchained," "Les Misérables" and "Seven Psychopaths." So let's get that out of the way right at the top. Making the cut in the adapted category was Stephen Chbosky and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," which has had a steady presence on the critics awards circuit and, in my...

Blood Lite III: Aftertaste
The third book in the hilarious and horrifying national bestselling anthology series from the Horror Writers Association–a frightfest of sidesplitting stories from such “New York Times” bestselling authors as Jim Butcher, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Heather Graham, L.A. Banks, Kelley Armstrong, and many more
Horror fiction explores the dark side of human nature, often pushing the limits of violence, graphic gore, and extreme emotions. But with the popularity of shows and movies, such as “The Walking Dead,” “True Blood,” “Twilight,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” audiences have demonstrated their love for the genre–especially accompanied with a dose of humor to tone down the terror.
“Blood Lite III: Aftertaste” continues to put the fun back into dark fiction, featuring a wide range of humorous and highly entertaining horror-filled tales. Edited by Horror Writers Association founding member and award-winning author Kevin J. Anderson, the stories vary in tone...

The first promo featuring footage from the American version of " The X Factor " is here -- and poor Cheryl Cole is nowhere to be seen in it. Making the cut for the video are judges Simon Cowell , Paula Abdul , L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger , who took Cole's place after she was booted from the show. Also briefly featured is host Steve Jones . The promo shows off plenty of bad singers, a few good ones and some really nasty critiques from the judges. Example: L.A. Folks, I have seen the light. I was just ready to call The Hurt Locker one of the top three best films of the decade and easily the best film of 2009. Then, my life changed when I opened up a package to reveal The Marine 2. It couldn’t possibly be worse than the awful first film with a man who poison’s wrestling in John Cena, I thought. I was very, very happily wrong. The Marine 2 should have seen theatrical release as it’s so far greater than The Hurt Locker Kathryn Bigelow should be ashamed of what she’s created.
Credit must be given to first-time actor Ted Dibiase Jr. for his outstanding performance as Joe Linwood. George Clooney? Psh, he’s nothing compared to the perfect, stiff Dibiase. He perfectly graduated from the Kristen Stewart School of Acting and it shows. He’s graceful with it,...

Plot: When a marine’s (Dibiase) wife is taken hostage by some Thai terrorists who received a very good education in the English language, he enlists himself to kick some ass.
Who’S It For?: Fans of Dibiase’s work in the WWE, or action junkies with cliches and corny acting already factored into their general expectations.
Movie:
Praise be to George Strait, I never thought I’d say this in my life: Why isn’t John Cena in this flick? He was in the first Marine and provided some commendable B-level action. Perhaps it was the amount of exploding buildings he dived away from, but it could be some charisma, which Ted Dibiase doesn’t have. Even...
