So You Think You Can Dance saw it’s UK launch on BBC last night and early figures indicate that it has gotten off to an encouraging start.
The show is fronted by ‘Nasty’ Nigel Lythgoe, who is joined on the judging panel by Arlene Phillips and Louise Redknapp. The premiere episode showed the audition stage of the show and revealed the fourteen finalists, live shows start next Saturday night.
Last night’s episode averaged 6.44 million viewers (27.4%) and though it started at 6pm, with just 4.64 million viewers (21.1%) by 7.15pm this had rose to 8.07 million (33.7%). Not quite the heady heights of X Factor but still an impressive result for a less sensational, more talent based show, especially when compared to the Us ratings of the 2009 season finale on Fox. Last December the American version of the show closed with 7 million viewers. The BBC look set to beat that figure.

Arlene Phillips may have been sacked from Strictly Come Dancing but don’t be fooled into thinking that she is going into retirement.
Arlene will return to ours TV screens this January in Nigel Lythgoe’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. Check out our interview with the choreographer below.
How do you feel about starting on a new dancing show after so long in Strictly?
During my time on Strictly I was involved in two other dance shows – Strictly Dance Fever and Dance X, so it’s business as usual.
What is your history with Nigel? Is it true you used to dance together?
I have known Nigel for many years. We both did jazz dance classes together and both auditioned for The Young Generation. He got the job, I didn’t.
How do you feel about working with him again after all these years?
I can’t wait...

Graham Norton has admitted that he is confused by the BBC’s decision to buy the rights for Nigel Lythgoe’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’
Norton claims that the format Lyhtgoe’s show is almost identical to an old BBC show, Strictly Dance Fever, which he fronted for BBC One in 2005 and 2006.
Norton told The Mirror: “I don’t understand why they’ve bought that format from Nigel Lythgoe, when it was a rip-off, sorry, inspired by the Beeb’s Strictly Dance Fever.
“I mean, you’re not reinventing the wheel, it’s a dance competition at the end of the day, but it’s odd for the BBC to buy it back when it was theirs in the first place.”...

Graham Norton has admitted that he would never be brave enough to compete on Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC TV host, who fronted spinoff series Strictly Dance Fever in 2005 and 2006, claimed that he would only be able to match the performance of last year's ill-fated star Kate Garraway. "If you can't do it, you can't do it," Norton told the Daily Record. "Some people do get better (more)...
