Remembering the great "Silverado"
Rodrigo_Amaro25 January 2018
In the 1980's the western genre was declared dead after Cimino's disaster with "Heaven's Gate" which almost caused the collapse of a studio. But Let's just say dead but not buried, it was more like waiting to be ressurected and live again. "Silverado" was one of the greatest breath of fresh air and allowed the western to have a life in that lost decade. Then followed "Pale Rider", "Young Guns" and others until 1990's set in and redefine it with the Oscar winning classics "Dances with Wolves" and "Unforgiven". And a documentary like this certainly proves why "Silverado" was a truly special film, not just because of the genre or the way it was treated and presented to audiences who weren't all that familiar with cowboys and horse-riding chases; it brought new faces that seemed like the perfect choice for that kind of movie. Mr. Lawrence Kasdan was a firing machine with one hit after the other and that risky film turned out to work brilliantly with a stellar cast composed by Kevin Kline, Danny Glover, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Linda Hunt, Brian Dennehy, Jeff Goldblum and many others. It was pure magic! The bonus material includes recent interviews with Kasdan and his actors, behind the scenes and some deleted scenes, all explained with great care and detail, far away from being one of those tired nostalgic and phony talks. I really recommend this short documentary and "Silverado" obviously. 9/10
