Yes, amazingly so. I had a lot of friends who wanted to order a copy of the movie and kept emailing and phoning me telling me that Amazon couldn't fulfil their order because they were sold out! Amazing I had no idea there were so many people out there who love this movie so much. It is very gratifying to see though, that we have something of a hit on our hands. But more stock was delivered to Amazon and they now have some stock, so you can order your copy and know you'll get it.
Well, the team as you put it ... well Pat is in England still and making some fine films which have been very well received and Jonty is in Melbourne Australia up to his neck in preparation for his next feature "City of the Damned" which starts filming early 2010
Yes, absolutely, and its a great way to work. Its produces some stunning moments of emotional truth that are almost painfully funny and always compelling viewing.
Each morning we would have a quick update on the story so far, then we'd improv the next scene from where we had left of. Over lunch there would be a story meeting where we would choose which path to follow, then that afternoon we'd recreate the scenes and shoot them.
This is why a lot of the scenes have that warm afternoon glow to them - most of the filming was done in the afternoons!
dangerous? No I don't think so. Its certainly exciting and brings out the best performances in many actors. We chose this method because both Jonty (producer) and Pat (director) are big fans of Mike Leigh's "Secrets & Lies" and had discussed the family bbq scene where apparently nobody in the cast knew of the impending arrival of Marie-Jean Baptiste as Brenda Blethyn's daughter. So we wanted to create our own 'cauldron of discontent' into which we could throw some characters and see what happened! And what happened was 'encounters'
Good question, it wasn't easy because of course there were many things which as an actor I shouldn't know but as a Producer I should!!! Thanks to our fantastic crew who are all fantastic, but especially in this regard to Becky and Carol!! It was hard sometimes to be split in to like that but we think the end result is worth it.
More like five years actually! And yes at times it seemed like it would never get anywhere but then we'd watch the film again and still find new things and new reactions and be moved by it. That seemed to rekindle our efforts to get it out there. Five years is a long time to wait, but its out there now and perhaps that shows the power of the story that even f]after 5 years it is still worth watching and it makes a great entertainment. What do you think?
