Really bad!

This film is really, really bad. The actors appear they don't want to be there. They look bored, uninterested and very bland. The jokes aren't funny. It comes across as if the writer of the script had funny ideas in his head but they came out differently on film. Even for American humor it is still woeful! The plot wobbles from one point to the next. As a viewer, you're left wondering what the point of the film actually is. This leads to the film's length. It is far too long for a comedy and it appears that filming was conducted to 'fill in time' rather than add value to the film. If You, Me and Dupree was a drama, and not a comedy, I may have rated it differently but my recommendation is to save your time and not see this film.

So bad it hurt

First of all, let me start off by saying I am a big fan of Owen Wilson. That said, I am no longer a fan. This movie was so painful to watch my date fell asleep in it, i fell asleep in it, most of the theatre was restless and laughter was non existent.

The storyline.. well, id bag it out, but there is none. It is the worst conceived piece of tripe i have ever watched. Michael Douglas was totally useless in this movie and Kate Hudson was just there for eye candy. Her lines were lame and didn't consist of anything more than "oh" "no" and "come on" ****Spoilers so please beware**** What was the deal with not seeing Mandie in this film or Anna? Seriously? This movie was great for starting conversation on the way home between my date and I as we quickly and easily dissected this piece of garbage someone called a film. This has indeed prompted me to get out the old camcorder and make my own film. It may suck, but at least I wont rip $15 out of your pocket to see it.

Utter crap.

You, Me, And Dupree

Did you see the Break-Up? A movie that is supposed to be funny but really it doesn't become funny at all? Well this movie is basically the same movie.

Owen Wilson moves in with his best friend and wife right after they get married because he lost his job while taking time off for their wedding. A plot that could deliver some comedy does it not sound like one? The commercials made it look like it would be pretty funny. But it's not at all.

The plot is jumpy around at times and predictable to a boring level. The flow of all the events are really weird and randomly placed through out the movie. Anything that happened in this movie could be placed in another part of the movie and the movie would still make sense.

The acting was alright. In a comedy you don't really need to know how to act because people will laugh at the jokes and not the actor usually. Unless it's a really good actor and can just make the audience laugh by just them being on camera.

The jokes are horrible. The movie didn't make me laugh except for maybe one time. They could have made the movie funny but they made it more into some stupid boring drama that people really wouldn't want to watch. I don't see why Owen Wilson would wanted to have casted in this piece of junk.

Over all this movie was REALLY disappointing and I would recommend only seeing it if you liked the Break-Up, or if you like drama movies where people fight and get angry without any comedy.

How this was commissioned and distributed is a mystery!

This is the worst, shallowest, unfunny film I have endured for years. The concepts are poor, characters very shallow and plot is entirely ridiculous. Shouldn't the Dupree character be at least likable? I would have cheerfully strangled him on at least 10 occasions. Additionally, the idea of putting him in front of a classroom of impressionable kids is ludicrous - bordering on insane. Who in their right mind would want kids to hear the "mothership" clap-trap from Dupree? The staged elements - where he is a rude and imposing house-guest, were shown on the trailers to the film and were meant to shock. The fact that there was little else of any substance in the actual film is typical of this genre. The fire scene is also much more annoying than credible. Then when it clears up so easily is preposterous. The "lovable rogue" who hasn't grown up and still has fun skateboarding with the local kids, should never have been accepted by the producers as credible. I could go on but it does not deserve further consideration.

Please respect yourself and the rest of your life and do not waste a second of it on watching this film!!!!

Comedy with a trowel

The premise could have made for a very funny film but the jokes in this are so over the top that it just commits harikari

It's not 'Something About Mary' o.t.t either, it's o.t.t to the point where it falls flat. For example Owen Wilson moves in with a moose's head? Owen Wilson is sleeping butt naked on the couch etc. Bwahahaha

If you want to see a similar theme and a much funnier movie watch 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' which has some hilarious moments but does it with some finesse for example when the cam pans out to show Martin drying his face on Candy's huge pants that have obviously been left laying around! (a much funnier working of the butt naked joke above)

Or perhaps a real classic like 'Animal House' which has crazed characters but unleashes them in short and very very funny bursts

This movie however sucks big time and can only appeal if you need the equivalent of comedy electroshock treatment to get you laughing

Help! Get me outta here!

Oh my god this is a bad film. Actually, that's being unfair to bad films, as this is true effluent of the purest variety. Poorly written, unfunny, stupid and very irritating, it made me want to leave, but unfortunately I was in the middle of a row and it was tricky to escape. I was possibly also paralysed by the brain-melting power of this movie. Even my 10 year old Godson found it unfunny, and he doesn't have the most sophisticated sense of humour.

Anyway, Matt Dillon, you should have known better. I can stand this kind of drivel from the totally one dimensional Owen Wilson, but you should know better! If you can spot that 'Crash' is a good script, then what happened when you read this one? It isn't 'Something About Mary' is it? It wasn't even a comedy, really, was it? Wake up!

Oh...the humanity!!! Make it stop! Make it stop!

This movie is so bad I am writing this review as my wife finishes watching this piece of crap. The best part of this movie is Matt Dillon. However, this movie is another installment in the "Meet The Parents" genre of bad things happening to the main protagonist(s). This genre is getting very tired, and should be put to bed. Owen Wilson's Rainman meets Frank The Tank character has the same effect on viewers as the gentle shrieks of a cat under a steamroller. One plus is that Kate Hudson is easy on the eyes. All I can say is after The Wedding Crashers and this, I have one Christmas wish. Santa, please let Owen Wilson's 15 minutes be up soon. I have to go...I can still hear the movie in the background and it made me puke in my mouth a little.

Run for your life!

After watching this steaming pile of cr*p I feel robbed of precious lifetime that I'll never get back. Even though I consider myself an "all-eater" when it comes to movies I just couldn't muster the strength needed to accept I'd made a huge mistake and just turn the film off... I'm usually a fan of Owen Wilson's, but this was just saddening.

I won't even get started on writing a proper review, the movie just doesn't merit it. I will however take the time to pin these few words down so that others might avoid watching this awful awful film and do something better with their time; like drilling holes into macaroni or something...

Nasty and stupid

This movie is a real nasty stinker. Instead of being amused, I'm p***ed off by its rotten message. Put bluntly, the story is as follows:

A guy (Dillon) working in a low-level position of a big scale architecture firm marries the daughter (the Hudson character, an elementary school teacher) of the millionaire owner and boss of the company (Douglas). They live in a really nice, big house no person of their age and profession could afford unless it's her daddy's gift. He is trying hard to get her father's respect while not losing too much of his integrity, and to honestly earn the money necessary to maintain their high level lifestyle. Therefore, he works a lot, and often overtime. She is unhappy with the overtime part, and doesn't notice the fact that he is trying really hard to please her.

Usually, the job of an elementary school teacher is hard and tiring, but she (Hudson) always looks fresh and energetic. She does not understand the concept of having to work one's butt off - how could she, she grew up a spoiled princess adored by daddy - and the general message of the movie is that the working guy has made the wrong decision in life.

This is made concrete as follows: After their wedding, his best buddy (Wilson) from older days pops up - a guy who tends to lose his jobs, and is a real parasite. He lives in other peoples' homes, and tends to get into people's private lives. His mantra is that one should be sufficiently relaxed, and be oneself. He causes chaos in their lives - which is supposed to be the funny part, but it isn't.

So now it's the unemployed buddy flirting with the wife (who works, but has the option to drop the job and live on daddy's money if she gets bored with teaching), teaming up against the guy who works his butt off to be able to offer his wife the high living standard she believes she is entitled to without having to resort to her daddy's money gifts too much.

Her daddy makes this goal of his really hard to achieve, and in one main scene, he loses control, and attacks his parasite buddy. The rest of the film is about how he can apologize to her that he lost control, and how he can win back her love. He believes that she is the best thing that ever happened to him.

I don't know who might be the target audience that could potentially enjoy this movie. I think that no person in a mutually halfways respectful relationship, not terribly wealthy, but working hard for a steady income will enjoy it. The movie spits with contempt into the face of such people. Its message is that wealth should be acquired by gift, and not by work. If one doesn't have it, working hard to achieve it will p**s off the wife if she grew up a princess.

Oh - I think I get it now who is the target audience. It makes me want to vomit.

Most characters in this film have profoundly rotten personalities.

What the hell were you people watching?

This film was so predictable and unfunny you'd have to be a real simpleton to have enjoyed it. I like Owen and Matt but this was awful. It fell flat on it's face and was unimaginative.

We walked out after about an hour. Nothing creative ever occurred. What was with this girl Owen fell in love with? Then she turned out to be a whore? Was anyone else kind of freaked out when he kept looking at the different men she slept with and they were gradually going through all the races and he kept getting more and more upset. Whats up with that? I love racial jokes but that was weird and kinda inappropriate. I would say wait till the DVD comes. It's BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stare at a light bulb instead

Even the title is stupid. Its an intensely predictable film about a couple, who has a guest stay with them, and he quickly becomes unwanted as his wacky hi-jinx cause trouble, oh my! A film about a zany character who has hilarious quirks that makes others uncomfortable? Where did they get this wholly original, brand new idea?!? The difference between this unoriginal film and the other three thousand with the same basic plot outline is that the others were a little funny. This train wreck features Kate Hudson, Matt Dillon, and Owen Wilson, all who play unlikeable and uninteresting, bland characters. Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon really seemed to phone this one in. This 'comedy' drags on for nearly two hours... unimaginable. Scene after scene that does nothing for the plot... absolutely dreadful. I really can't stress how boring this movie was. The drab, tepid characters, the rehashed story... it was like a mouthful of paper. I really can't stress how terrible, slow, and boring this movie was. I wouldn't even recommend it to someone I don't like. Honestly, I think I would recommend Weekend at Bernie's II before 'Dupree'. This movie was like slowly bleeding to death. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this one; and if you see it in the store, destroy every copy to protect others from this cinematic atrocity.

Hollywood thinks that piracy is killing the business. This rubbish and other horrible things like 'Van Wilder II' with no Van Wilder are more obvious reasons.

A comedy?

This film is advertised as a comedy, and that is the biggest joke of all. It is dull, flat, routine, uninspired and full of boring characters and equally uninteresting actors. Funny it it not, embarrassing it most certainly is. The humour falls flat on its face and the sentimental episodes are toe-curlingly cringe-making. It falls into the "what were they thinking of when they made this" category. Pity the poor projectionist (me) who had to run this waste of film. And it seems now that you cannot see a movie without Michael Douglas popping up somewhere. Is he really so short of money that he has to appear in dross like this? Or is he trying to prove something? Perhaps the latter - it goes with the cosmetic surgery. Talking of which, as I said in my notes on The Sentinel, the most interesting part of a Michael Douglas film is trying to spot the face-lift scars.

waste

If you really want to watch a movie that will entertain and make you laugh till you drop, do not watch this.

This is a movie that lacks substance and performance. The lady is beautiful but it is not a pornographic movie and she ain't worth wasting your time for.

Owen Wilson acts like his just starting his acting career, I think his career is over.

Michael Douglas has insignificant role and is quite tiresome like the film..

If you really desperate to watch this movie do not watch the trailer as all the best material in the film has been used in it. That tells you allot doesn't it. Your waiting for some improvement it never arrives.

1 out of 10 is only for the lady in the film, not her acting but her underpants.

One of the worst so-called "comedies" I've ever seen.

I rented this instead of buying it, and I'm really glad I didn't buy it, although I would have preferred not to see it at all. You all know the story, so I wont tell what it's about. But Owen Wilson is extremely annoying in this film. He is unbelievable, clumsy, rude and after one hour I wanted to throw something hard on the TV so I actually had to take a break. There are no jokes in this film, and that is kind of unusual for a COMEDY! I didn't laugh once. I didn't smile once. That makes it a bad comedy. It was bland and extremely cliché. You knew from the beginning exactly what were going to happen. That doesn't automatically ruin a film, but when everything happens in a boring way without jokes, then the film is ruined. Kate Hudson were pretty and nothing more, Matt Dillon were stiff and nothing more, Owen Wilson were absolutely terrible. Even Michael Douglas under-achieved, but that's because the screenplay was bland, dull boring, unintelligent and annoying. Did anyone actually direct this film or did they just let the actors sit on the set and read their lines?

I got mad watching this film, and I don't think that's the emotion the filmmakers wanted to create. A pathetic excuse for a comedy.

dire - don't waste your time or money

I have never felt compelled to write a comment about any film before, but having spent the best part of an hour and a half watching this truly awful film, I feel a moral obligation to the rest of the human race to warn them off enduring this same experience. The film is based on the idea of a newly wed couple who have their lives interrupted by the groom's best man (Wilson), who due to the loss of a job and place to live, ends up living downstairs in their new home. The result of this is then stretched out over the following hour. The film contains little in the way of story line, is utterly predictable and very short on laughs. Basically, utter drivel. Listen to the critics. You have been warned!

Really really bad

You me and Dupree really is a horrible film and was a big disappointment to me. I usually like Kate Hudson, and Matt Dillon has certainly been involved in good material in his professional acting career, but this garbage is just sad. This film has a potentially funny plot and had some potential to be good quality comedy, but it wasted that good potential on unfunny content, lackluster jokes, and wooden acting from the cast. Owen Wilson was annoying and just unfunny as our star, Dupree. And Kate and Matt really didn't have any true noticeable chemistry as a couple, they looked fake and unbelievable. Oh and Michael Douglas is also in here in a small supporting role, Kate's father, and I really hated him in this film, I thought he was just dumb, unnecessarily annoying and completely unfunny. The script is dull and it is void of any and all possible jokes that would work well. This "comedy" film, if you can even call it that, falls flat and disappoints big time. 1/10 for You me and Dupree.
