Chevrolet to the Rescue
The Jam Handy organization flourished as an industrial film organization for many years and their bread-and-butter work was the production of films for the Chevrolet division of General Motors, with movies showing how differential gears work and how the ever-growing network of roads would make the city of tomorrow different. This one is not your typical industrial film, however. Chevrolet was limited to providing financing and in return they got a major credit and what was clearly a 1938 Chevrolet as the deus ex machina that solved the problem at the end of the movie.
The rest of it looks a lot like Fleischer work. It has the evolved rubber-tube animation and color choices of Fleischer's cartoons of the period, as well as the innumerable gags that Dave Fleischer scattered through his cartoons. Its hero, Nicky Nome, looks like he is modeled on Disney's SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN Dwarfs, with his triangular beard and jerkin-and-tights outfit. It's a cute little film, but Handy would go back to their main work soon enough.
