New Yorkers vs. non-New Yorkers, characters vs. regular people
mariastefana-110 April 2006
I really had no idea what to expect when starting to watch this movie and the truth is I was pleasantly surprised. I feel it manages to capture that vibrant and damp New York air quite well, in spite of various shortcomings that are not worth mentioning now. There is a possibly interesting and intriguing story shaping up behind the few lines and images that we're presented with, but this is strictly up to the viewer, since this is more of a "portrait film". The portrait of the city is briefly sketched mainly visually, and the three characters come to reinforce its main traits. The three seem extracted from the city's everyday life, but never for a second lose their quality of "character" and become "civilians". New York is only inhabited by "characters" after all, isn't it?
