Although it's always best to give the benefit of the doubt to movies that were made this long ago, some of them just aren't good enough to allow you to say anything particularly positive about them. This is one of those cases, as it is a thoroughly unexceptional one-gag comedy, in which the gag it is based on is not even very funny or original.
The brief story shows a disappointed lover who tries a rather desperate trick in an attempt to win his beloved's affections. It's not a funny gag, and it was probably far from original even a century ago. Nor, unfortunately, is there anything innovative or interesting in the way that it is filmed. The setting doesn't even offer any interesting detail, and the film-makers used a completely static camera, apparently in the mistaken belief that the joke was funny enough to stand on its own.
