The DVD release includes the episode Retarded Animal Babies 9 and Retarded Animal Babies 16 which were never shown on the Internet. However, episode 9 eventually got released online for the show's 10th anniversary, on April 6, 2013.
It was supposed to have a second DVD, with episodes 17-23, as well as a couple DVD exclusive episodes, but creator David C. Lovelace cancelled it due to poor pre-order sales in comparison to the first DVD's pre-order sales.
Originally, there was going to be giraffe, hippo and xerus characters as part of the main cast, and creator David C. Lovelace wanted the Retarded Animal Babies to be like Pokémon, with many animals, but opted out of it and stuck with only five of them, and tried to go for quality over quantity. Lovelace joked however that he got neither quality or quantity.
