Good story crammed into 2 hours

Serenity was a very good story with several interesting subplots that could have been better represented in at least a trilogy. I am hopeful that the creators of this very well done sci-fi flick will come back with pre-quils. I gave it a 7 because for the first half of the movie, I spent most of the time watching and wondering exactly what the point of the movie was and how they were going to tie up all the subplots. Some of them where explained...some of them I just had to assume about. Aside from this, the movie was very entertaining, with a good mix of humor, suspense, sarcasm amongst the main characters, and a hint of drama. As I said before, the story would have been done more justice if it would have been stretched out into at least a trilogy...

Beautifully played action adventure

Serenity is a tale that I fully recommend to everyone who is intrigued with adventure, loyalty, action and romance. The movie exhibits grace, realism, some romance but also a sense for the search of truth and the human element of compassion for others. Each of the individual actors plays his or her part extremely well, and you can clearly sense that they really want to act their part and want to be in that make believe fantasy world; every single one of them is a true star; it is seldom to see such real acting and it puzzles me why these actors have never been more on the forefront of the cinema screen. The part of the secret operative sent to eliminate River, the girl searched for by the empire and gifted with psychic abilities, is played very well; his melancholic and somewhat sad nature contrasts beautifully with the never giving up captain of the Serenity crew, who even after having almost lost all his people in the war with the empire and is thoroughly disappointed with the world and himself, still manages to find plenty of courage to come to the rescue of River and her brother. This element of compassion is a very strong theme in the movie and is the guiding principle from the beginning to the end. Even the slightly worn out idea of saving the universe from the manipulation of a degraded empire, still does it extremely well in this beautifully made movie.

Emotionally riveting characters, plot, and performances by all characters.

Joss Wedon has picked a stellar crew for the film and worked his magic. I haven't kept coming back to see a movie since the first Star Wars. It's emotionally addictive, but not in the plain old feel good movie way. It's the characters, the interaction of personalities as each has their dark and shining hero moment, the love unspoken, or unrequited, the choices minute by minute that show who you are really inside. When push comes to shove is the cynical bent Captain Malcolm Reynolds really a heartless calculating crook. If having lost all faith in man or woman and the government destroys all you hold dear out side of the crew and deprives you of all means of making a living inside and outside of the law what would you do. Nathan Fillian shines bright! I know what Mal Reynolds does and so do you if you've seen Serenity. If not, why? Why not find Serenity? While you can.
