This broadcast captures the first-time-ever production of the original un-cut French version of Verdi's "Don Carlos" as it has never been produced before, except for rehearsals of the 1867 world-premiere in Paris. Some of the music has been cut to the 1867-premiere because the five-hour-work was considered too long. Verdi himself re-worked his work several times and finished the so-called "Italian version" (the one which is usually being produced in opera houses around the world these days) in 1884.
