When it comes to men's magazines (the kind with nude girls in them and not the ones, say, stuffed with muscle cars or expensive suits), Playboy is always portrayed as the classier affair, one modeled on sleek modernity, while Penthouse is seen as an altogether more vulgar enterprise. This was summed up by the publishing titans behind the magazine: Playboy's Hugh Hefner had a trademark pipe and smoking jacket, while Bob Guccione of Penthouse had an open shirt overflowing with chest hair, a jangling wreath of gold chains around his neck and a cigarette, always dangling from his fingers or mouth. What the new Epix documentary "Filthy Gorgeous: The Story of Bob Guccione" exposes, is that for all the smutty excesses, Guccione was a tenacious fighter for free speech, one who broke more taboos than the bunny ever did. As far as the format goes, 'Filthy Gorgeous' is pretty traditional...

One of the true pioneers of adult and erotic cinema, Tinto Brass is renown as one of Europe’s leading figures in softcore erotic filmmaking, earning a worldwide reputation for his blend of art and extremity. After joining the Italian film industry in the early 1960’s Brass worked alongside the likes of Federico Fellini and Roberto Rossellini, before directing his debut solo feature in 1963. However it was not until 1976 that Brass would gain worldwide recognition, when Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione chose him to direct the infamous Caligula. Despite numerous editing and post-production issues, which caused Brass to disown the film, it made millions at the box office and ultimately gained him global notoriety.

Hey, remember those two things you hoped to God you would never have to see? Well, it turns out they both exist and could at any point surface on the Internet. They’re like Internet Jaws: you never know when they’re going to strike! First of this evening’s nightmares is a nude vintage sex photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger that surfaced in Penthouse founder Bob Guiccione‘s storage locker, a locker which we’re betting smells so, so, so gross. The New York Post reports that the pic involved the former governor “performing a sex act,” a description we find terrifying in its vagueness. There’s no word as to whether the storage unit’s new owner plans to publish the image, but considering he bought Bob Guccione’s storage unit after the famed pornographer went bankrupt, we’re assuming it’s only a matter of time until we...

Christian Bale, a Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner for The Fighter and next to be seen in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, is attached to star; as per Deadline, Bradley Cooper is "in talks." Written by Eric Singer, American Bullshit revolves around the FBI sting operation "Abscam," which nailed several U.S. politicians on corruption charges in the late '70s. (The FBI also tried to nail Penthouse's Bob Guccione by [illegally] entrapping him, but that didn't work. Guccione later unsuccessfully sued the Us government.) Actress/singer Vanessa Williams' mother received racially-charged death threats after her daughter became the first black Miss America in 1983.
The Ugly Betty star was crowned New York's Miss Syracuse back in 1983 and she continued on the pageant path until she made history and became the first African-American to land the U.S. title.
But not everyone was happy for success.
Writing about the fall-out in her new memoir You Have No Idea, which Williams co-authored with her mum Helen, the star reveals, "As the 1983 Miss America put the crown on my head, I had no emotion - I wasn't very happy. I wasn't excited. I wasn't there. I just smiled and waved. I had made history, but for some (black people), winning wouldn't suffice. Some didn't think I was black enough.
"The New York Daily News ran a photo of Bruce (my boyfriend) and me - and the response was, 'Oh my God! She has a white boyfriend!' My mother received death threats."
And Helen confesses she was petrified for her daughter's safety, recalling, "I was so proud of her. But someone wrote that they were going to throw acid in her face. People sent notes: 'you're Dead, B**Ch.' We were so worried. We had no idea there'd be all this anger and hatred."
And there was more controversy to come - just 10 months into her reign as Miss America, Williams became the centre of a nude photo scandal and was pressure to resign her crown after the candid Tom Chiapel shots appeared in Penthouse magazine.
Williams filed a lawsuit against Chiapel and Penthouse boss Bob Guccione, but dropped it a year later.

San Diego police are investigating the death of 58-year-old Caligula actress Anneka Di Lorenzo (aka Anneka Vasta), whose body was found Jan. 4 by joggers on a military training beach in San Diego County. Di Lorenzo appeared in a handful of "exploitation" movies of the '70s, most notably as Roman Empress Messalina in both Tinto Brass' Caligula and Bruno Corbucci's Messalina, Empress of Rome. Investigators are trying to figure out how Di Lorenzo/Vasta, a resident of the Los Angeles suburb of Sherman Oaks, ended up in the water. Her car and belongings were found atop a bluff; had she jumped, investigators say that her body wouldn't have landed in the water because the tide doesn't come up that far. In Caligula, the beautiful, sculptural Di Lorenzo was featured in a memorable lesbian sex scene with Lori Wagner. Other credits, film and otherwise, include (with her last name...

San Diego (AP) -- Mystery surrounds the death of a woman who washed up on a Southern California beach more than nine months ago and more than three decades after she posed nude in Penthouse magazine, dated its founder Bob Guccione and bared it all in "Caligula."
The body of Anneka Vasta was found Jan. 4 by joggers on a restricted San Diego County military training beach. She had been known as Anneka Di Lorenzo when she was Penthouse 1975 Pet of the Year and appeared in the sexually graphic 1979 movie "Caligula."
Although she was 58, Camp Pendleton military police said the slender, naked body found on the beach was so youthful in appearance they thought she was teenager.
An autopsy revealed she had a broken neck and back, and drowned.
But authorities want to know how the woman who became a Los Angeles-area nursing assistant got on the remote beach 35 miles north of San Diego,...

When the female body washed up on a beach by Camp Pendleton, a Marine Corps base north of San Diego, it was so slim and youthful-looking that investigators initially assumed she was a teenager. It was only later that the remains were determined to be those of a 58-year-old former model and B-list actress who had once aspired to be known as "the sexiest woman in the world." Anneka Vasta, known as Anneka Di Lorenzo in the 1970s and the 1975 Penthouse Pet of the Year, was found earlier this year in a restricted area of the base with her neck and back broken.

Stars: Malcolm McDowell, Teresa Ann Savoy, Helen Mirren, Peter O’Toole, John Geilgud | Written by Gore Vidal | Directed by Tinto Brass, Bob Guccione
Where to start with Caligula? The story of rise and fall of Rome’s most infamous Caesar, the film is as infamous as the life of the character it depicts. Produced by Penthouse’s Bob Guccione and starring some of Britain’s most well-respected thespians, Caligula is a strange beast, mixing period drama with dollops of sleaze and hardcore sex!
Over the years, the film has built up a reputation in the UK on the back of a massively cut 102 minute version of the film, however this disc from Arrow Video presents the film in it’s original 156 minute form, complete with hardcore inserts featuring all types of sex – oral, anal, gay, lesbian, straight, etc., wierd sexual fetishes and a ridiculously over the top orgy that punctuates the films denouement.

Malcolm McDowell, Caligula Penthouse founder Bob Guccione died of cancer on Oct. 20 at a hospital in Plano, Texas. He was 79. Best known for the explicit sexual content found in his magazine, a Playboy rival that began circulating in England in the mid-60s and in the United States near the end of the decade, Guccione (born in Brooklyn on Dec. 17, 1930) also produced the infamous Caligula (shot in 1976-77, released in 1979). Written by Gore Vidal and directed by Tinto Brass, Caligula starred Malcolm McDowell as the sociopathic Roman emperor, and featured Peter O'Toole, John Gielgud, Helen Mirren, and Paolo Bonacelli in supporting roles. But what initially was to have been a prestigious production eventually became something else altogether. Unhappy with Brass' handling of the material, Guccione decided to spice things up with the addition of several sexually explicit scenes (shot by himself and Giancarlo Lui), including a wild orgy [...]...

Penthouse magazine founder Bob Guccione has died. He was 79. Guccione died at Plano Specialty Hospital in Plano, Texas, his family said in a statement to The Associate Press. He battled lung cancer for several years. Guccione started his magazine in England in 1965 in order to pay for his art career. He brought the magazine to the U.S. four years later, hoping to one-up Playboy by focusing on voyeurism. "To see her as if she doesn't know she's being seen. That was the sexy part, Guccione told The Independent in London, in 2004. "That was the part that none of our competition understood." Bob Guccione, who brought full-frontal nudity to the newsstands and built a multimillion dollar publishing empire on the success of his flagship Penthouse magazine, died of cancer in Plano, Texas, on Wednesday, his family said. He was 79.His wife, April Dawn Warren Guccione, and two of his children were at his side. Seen as an upstart rival to Playboy's Hugh Hefner as the leading publisher of skin magazines, Guccione aggressively challenged his rival while trying to keep Penthouse legitimate. The financial success of Penthouse's mix of racy photographs, investigative reporting, science fiction and sexual advice columns allowed Guccione to launch other magazines, most notably the glossy science publication Omni. He also published Forum, Variations and Penthouse Letters, pocket-sized magazines based on some of the most popular Penthouse columns. Guccione also owned one of the largest mansions in Manhattan. But he eventually lost his Penthouse empire due to Reagan-era censorship,...

Yesterday was all about Apple, as the Cupertino launched hardware and software to an adoring world. And you all know what comes next: the unboxing and the hands-on. Here's Engadget's Josh Topolsky on the 13-inch MacBook Air. Does it make me wish I had saved my spondulicks for one instead of the MacBook Pro I bought last week? With it being so skinny, and me being so clumsy, that's a definite nope.

According to Medical Journal the Lancet, India's Malaria epidemic is 13 times higher than official estimates. Although the Who disputes the figure of 200,000 deaths per annum, one of the report's lead authors told the BBC that worldwide figures could be higher as a result, as it is thought that countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia are underestimating the effects of Malaria.

Penthouse magazine founder Bob Guccione died on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer, according to The Associated Press. While the pipe-smoking, velvet-pajama-wearing Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner was the mainstream face of men's magazines in America, Guccione cultivated a more outrageous reputation, constantly pushing the envelope of good taste and seeking to outgun his lifelong rival in the skin trade with outrageous layouts and stunts.
Hefner sought to portray the suave, sophisticated man of leisure, but Guccione cut a rougher figure, wearing wide-open disco shirts and gold chains and running more explicit photo spreads and tabloid journalistic investigations in his magazine. The Brooklyn native went from nearly entering the priesthood to running a mainstream adult magazine that showed America more skin than any previous publication at the time and becoming one of the richest men in America.

Tuesday night, hours before our start of Spirit Day, 19-year-old Corey Jackson hung himself. There’s no direct evidence of bullying of the gay Oakland University student, but let’s face it, we get bullied everyday just for being gay.
As evidence of that statement, I offer Maggie Gallagher’s editorial for the New York Post. She cites out of context “evidence” that marriage equality wouldn’t reduce the suicides, using Massachusetts as a sample. It hardly counts when that marriage isn’t valid when you cross the state line, Maggie. Or when newspapers think that there are two sides to this story that need to be aired. There is no opposing viewpoint to dead children.
It’s so bad that Facebook has teamed up with MTV, GLAAD, The Trevor Project, GLSEn and Pflag to create a “Network of Support.”
Meanwhile, thanks to a Facebook campaign, Ireland is looking at...
