The disappearance of the father whose daughter died under strange circumstances, is what brings the police to try to solve this mystery. Linda Wallander, now a detective, has been given lectures at a local high school where the dead girl had attended. Linda, who had only been telling the students about abstaining from drugs, becomes obsessed with the case, vowing to solve it.

Kurt Wallander's visit to the doctor turns out to be quite a shock for the police chief. There might be a possibility he might be having cancer, but the doctor is confident that if that is the case, it will be treated successfully. Kurt is visibly worried, but refuses to discuss his health problems with anyone, even Linda. Ann-Britt Hoglund is the only one Kurt tells about his grim prospect.

Meanwhile, Linda begins delving into the dead girl's murder. The school counselor, who she has worked with for her anti-drug campaign, proves no help as she proceeds with the investigation. Tove Sahlin, a troubled young woman from the high school is found injured. Her parents give Linda a clue and a lead that she follows. Tove has also shown large amounts of drug that killed her school mate.

The thing that brings the case to a head involves another student a newly arrived shy girl that is being targeted by the criminals that are taking advantage of the teenagers for sexual activities. When all is said and done, we are surprised by the ones behind the abuses. Kurt, on the other hand, receives good news that he was cleared of having cancer.

The episode was directed by Stephan Apelgren, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ulf Ryberg. This was a good show in which a vulnerable Kurt Wallander has to deal with a threatening health problem that gets the best of him. At the same time, Linda, his daughter proves to be worthy of her responsibilities as a detective, following her father's footsteps.

Krister Henriksson has some good moments as Wallander. Johanna Hallstrom is also effective as Linda Wallander. Both actors contributed to our enjoyment of the series.

best so far

I've been watching them in order. This is the best so far. I thought maybe I'm just getting hooked on the characters, but no. It's good writing. The actors seem to be more in touch with and more relaxed and natural in their roles. Maybe just a very good episode. Maybe the series is just hitting its stride. Either way, great work. The nature of the relationship between Kurt and Linda is getting more fleshed out. And there's real tenderness between Stephan and Linda. And even Kurt is getting into a relationship. Cold Swedes are warming up. Stereotypes are breaking down. It has a warmer feeling, less Nordic, more European. Broader in its appeal. Enjoyable overall.

Drugs and Sex Trafficking
Hitchcoc18 November 2015
This is a sad portrayal of a public school that has fallen to the depths of ugly bullying and disregard for the lost and depressed. A man whose daughter committed suicide at fourteen and whose wife is confined to a sanitarium has gone missing, leaving his toddler son behind. This doesn't wash because the man's sole focus in life had become the little boy. We are introduced to two young women. Tove, who has gotten herself mixed up in drugs and a sex trade, induced by an evil janitor at the school. And Sarah, a new girl, who has been bullied by her peers. She is very unhappy and always seems to be the one blamed for confrontations that she didn't start. The children at the school are portrayed as sour and unfriendly, mean spirited and somewhat dangerous. This is probably a little over the top, We also find out that Wallander is being tested for prostate cancer. This is affecting him in his work, although he tries to not let it. This story features some of the most despicable of characters.
