A great show for horse lovers everywhere

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Horse Power: Road to the Maclay. It was nice getting to see what the Maclay finals are really like since I did not qualify this year. I loved that Animal Planet chose to show people what showing is really all about. It showed the ups and downs and how hard we work to achieve our goals. Personally, I thought it was a little boring at times because the program stopped to explain a lot of things which is nice for those who don't know anything about showing but for those who do show (which I believe was a majority of the viewers) it was a bit beginner like and made it a little bit boring but it was still fun to watch. I hope that Animal Planet will chose to do a similar type of show but with new riders. It would be nice to see how different it is for those who are not the big names in riding. Those who are not well known we have to work EVEN harder and I think it would be nice for people to see that aspect of it. Overall, I thought it was a great show and I really enjoyed watching it.

Very realistic

I personally am a 15 year old girl who has been riding for the past 7 years. I found this series to be be very true to the nature of the bond between horse and rider. The show atmosphere is correctly portrayed as tense, yet fun. My biggest qualm with this show is the way they repeatedly describe 3ft or 3'6'' jumps as low. Many people who ride never jump over 3ft, either because they just don't want to, or because they can't afford a horse that can. To many of the younger kids who are watching this show, jumping 2ft with their ponies is a huge accomplishment and by saying 3ft "isn't that high" the narrator diminishes their accomplishments.

Other than that, I have thoroughly enjoyed this show and am very disappointed that they did not make another season.

Horse Power...

Horse Power was a great show! I watched it from beginning to end, had them taped and have watched them dozens of times, and have ordered the DVD from the Discovery Store. As a competitive hunter/jumper rider, I found this show to be both educational and interesting.

The girls who rode in the 2005 Maclay are all fantastic riders. The show introduces us in-depth to 6 girls and 1 boy: Brianne the "favorite," Maria the catch rider, the unpredictable Chelsea, the egotistical Nikko, Lindsay the underdog, Natalie the eldest, and Maggie the "wonder kid." The show gives a nice variety of people...5 are from two different elite show barns, one is trained by his mother, and another lives on a farm. However, they are all extremely competitive and excellent riders.

I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves horses.
