More costume madness from Robbie Moffat
Leofwine_draca13 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
AXE RAIDERS is another slice of costume madness from Scots director Robbie Moffat. It's part of a loose trilogy that began with THE BONE HUNTER and was followed with THE WINTER WARRIOR. The script is slightly better here but only slightly. The story is your usual Dark Age nonsense about clan rivalry and the beautiful Scottish landscapes are the best element. Otherwise, it feels like a typical re-enactment, with a lot of attention paid to costumes, dwellings, and food, but not much in the way of story. They got hold of a ship for one scene which is quite impressive. A shame the quality of the acting is so pitiful.

what a joke

I've seen poor production values but this load of rubbish will take some beating. Any positive comments surely must be written by this hack or one of his mates. RUBBISH!!! This came across my desk as a screener along with other gems in this company's collection. I don't know if I can stand watching any of the other crimes against film.

By the reviews on his other "films" I shouldn't bother. Do I dare? Are these films these reason Gordon Brown has come down on the English tax credit? I can only imagine that these films are made just to qualify for a tax credit. Crap it out and file the paperwork. Shame. I'm sure there are lots of directors that would be able to produce some form of entertainment with these resources. Doesn't look like much in the way of resources but none the less I have seen some very creative things done with very little. Having some talent in front of camera would be a start!

a great small company film

Excellent use of backdrops and scenery. Script a little mediocre at times, but better than previous Winter Warrior films. The fight scenes were great in some shots and poor in others, due to the same guys used over and over again. Even with a low budget, maybe if they'd got more people as extras, that would 'flesh out' the scenes and give more variety. Having a few more people duking it out in background whilst main fighters lock horns in front of camera give a sense of realism - obviously not every fight scene, but in just enough so you see things happen and with extra faces to show depth and the possibility that there are actually more people around. This is definitely better than some of the other films they've brought out, but hopefully they will provide bigger and better next time.
