In my humble opinion, this is a rare and unique masterpiece! Although still below the radar, by far the best Art work of Quentin Dupieux so far and one of my Top 10 all time favorites, along with "La Montaña Sagrada" by Jodorowsky, "Bad Boy Bubby" by Rolf de Heer, "Dogtooth" by Giorgos Lanthimos, "Funny Games" by Michael Haneke, "Cube" by Vincenzo Natali and "La planète sauvage" by René Laloux.
What I experienced, and felt compelled to write my first ever review, is an existential effort to summarize everything in one major and unforgettable cinematic achievement, exceeding as far as I know for the first time in the history of celluloid cinematography the boundaries of what a film is, hence the profoundly appropriate title. Don't expect anything familiar, it doesn't belong in any genre, and despite the obvious low budget and the minimalistic approach, nothing is as it seems; it is challenging and sometimes hard to follow, though the raw beauty and brutal ingenuity is way beyond anything you have experienced. Every scene is an opportunity to ponder about existence and social norms/institutions. Imagine the beginning as the birth of your consciousness, and the set as our culture. Pay attention to the details, notice how the characters evolve, nothing is random, and even disturbing scenes are thought provoking. This is a complete break through and the most daring allegory on the mystery of being in an absurd society, where to act is to be. In essence, that's life!
