This episode seems to be at odds with the back story established for Cally in Time Squad (1978), where the Aurons sent her to Saurian Major to assist the resistance there and her exile was self-imposed after failing to save them from being wiped out. Here, she went to Saurian Major in defiance of her people's isolation policy.
A unknown actress doubled for Jan Chappell as Cally and Zelda for the scenes with Cally and Zelda.
Guest star Ronald Leigh-Hunt had played a very similar role in Revenge of the Cybermen: Part One (1975) which had an almost similar plot to that of Children of Auron. In Revenge of the Cybermen, Nerva Beacon, a space station orbiting the asteroid Voga has been into quarantine when it's crew is infected by a space virus and The Doctor soon discovers that the man behind it Professor Kellman is working for the Cybermen and it's part of their evil plot to destroy Voga along with it's native inhabitants.
