- The Liberator is drawn off course by an artificial black hole. Orac brings the ship too close in order to study the phenomenon, and, unable to break free, the Liberator is dragged through into an "impossible" starless black void... or is it? Orac's science is pitted against a legendary figure from Cally's childhood stories.—Anonymous
- Liberator inexplicably deviates from its preset course, but Orac maintains the ship is functioning normally. Cally is injured and, while in sickbay, hears the voice of The Thaarn, an evil mythological creature believed to exist only in Auronar stories. The crew realize only too late that Liberator is falling into a black hole. Orac is fascinated by the phenomenon and intends to study it.
After falling into the black hole, the crew finds itself captured on an artificial planet. Tarrant and Avon are being put to work on complex calculations and Liberator is about to be taken apart.
Orac and Zen prevent the intruders from damaging the ship while the Thaarn, who is revealed to be one of the seven 'Gods' that brought live to Auron, tries to convince Cally to stay with him and end his loneliness. The Thaarn intends to enhance the artificial gravity generator enough that he will be able to control the universe, as he swore to do before being banished by his fellow 'Gods'. Cally tricks the Thaarn into switching off the technology rendering the crew's weapons ineffective, thus enabling them to make their way to Liberator while another captive switches off the artificial gravity keeping the ship in check.
Cally threatens to kill the Thaarn, but at the last minute decides against it and joins the crew as they escape. With the gravity generator shut off, the planet itself is destroyed - but not before the crew notices another craft launching: the Thaarn has also escaped.
