- [last lines]
- Lester Jenkins: Listen, everybody, what we need to do is put the spotlight on these pushers!
- Rose Lee Holloway: That's right! You know, either they don't know or they don't care with they're doing to people, and it's getting so, I'm getting afraid to send Tiffany to school.
- Tiffany Holloway: I'm not afraid of them.
- Rose Lee Holloway: Well, I am!
- Sandra Clark: I'll tell you another thing: drugs and men don't mix! I just say no!
- Mary Jenkins: [sarcastically] To men or drugs?
- Sandra Clark: To drugs. I tried to say no to men, but I can't kick that habit.
- [Ron's mother arrives by the doorway looking shook up without anyone noticing]
- Lester Jenkins: Well, if I ever catch any of those pushers around our place, it's over for them.
- Pearl Shay: Well, I've got a baseball bat that will give them a downer they'll never forget.
- Moderator: But the sad truth is: if it weren't for customer, there wouldn't be no pushers.
- Mary Jenkins: That's right! Now how do we get the public to believe how bad this is?
- Ann Davis: [voice shaking] I believe it.
- [everyone turns to her]
- Ann Davis: I... just found out that my son, Ronald, was dealing drugs. That mess was in my house. I just refuse to see it. He even had my 10-year-old delivering for him.
- [Everyone goes silent, Lester shakes his head]
- Ann Davis: Uh, and near as the police can tell, My son, Ronald, was dealing with a junkie tonight who probably didn't have enough money, so they figure he just took the drugs--after he stabbed my son to death!
- [everyone gasps in shock and pity, Rose holds Tiffany close]
- Ann Davis: I... I got three other kids at home I have to worry about... and I don't know what to do!
- [turns to the moderator]
- Ann Davis: [sobs desperately] Please! Tell me what to do!
- Mary Jenkins: [noticing Pearl upset with Calvin] What's the matter, Pearl?
- Pearl Shay: We have a little problem about where Calvin's going to spend the next few years.
- Mary Jenkins: [chuckles] Oh, is that all? There's lot of good colleges around.
- Pearl Shay: Yeah, and there's also Joliet, Sing Sing, and San Quentin.
- Ron Davis: Hey, Calvin! How's it going?
- Calvin Dobbs: [uneasy] Alright.
- Ron Davis: Hey, uh, did you open that package?
- Calvin Dobbs: [flatly] No.
- Ron Davis: Good. Anyway, where's the envelope Tony gave you?
- Calvin Dobbs: I don't have it.
- Ron Davis: What?
- Calvin Dobbs: Mrs. Jenkins gave it to the police.
- Ron Davis: [incredulously livid] That's why the police are checking my place? You better come up with my money, man, because you owe me!
- [Ron angrily throws the basketball at Calvin]
- Calvin Dobbs: Hey, look, man, I don't owe you nothing! You left me holding your drugs! I could've been busted! I thought you were my friend!
- Ron Davis: Hey, forget you, man! I don't have friends; I have customers! And you were just another sucker I used, and all it cost me was some chump change and a pair of sneakers!
- [Ron walks to his car until Calvin walks to him taking off his sneakers Ron gave him and slams them on the passenger seat]
- Calvin Dobbs: Here's your sneakers! Now why don't you just sneak your butt on out of here?
- Ron Davis: Hey, man, no sweat. See, I got a deal cooking that's going to make me so much money, I'll be on a yacht in the Bahamas.
- Calvin Dobbs: You ain't nothing, man! If I ever catch you around this building or Brenda again, you just get ready to throw down, chump!
