- Tony Almeida: [Over the phone] where are you?
- Jack Bauer: I can barely hear you: you're going to have to speak up. We've got a really bad connection
- Tony Almeida: Listen, I want you to bring Wallace back here now
- Jack Bauer: Wallace is dead but I got the evidence that proves the Cypress audio was forged. It's a CPD memory chip containing the original source recoding
- Tony Almeida: How do you know it's real?
- Jack Bauer: Because he died trying to give it to me. He had it surgically implanted. I hardly think he had gone through that kind of trouble if it wasn't authentic
- Tony Almeida: Alright. Where are you?
- Jack Bauer: We're at an urgent care center somewhere in North Hollywood. We're about forty minutes outside CTU. We're going to bring you the chip now
- Tony Almeida: Call in your route from the road so I can send aerial escort
- Jack Bauer: Ok fine. I need you to get in touch with the President, I've been trying to but his in the middle of a meeting with the Joint Chiefs, and they won't patch me through
- Tony Almeida: I'm not calling the President until you confirm what your holding is real
- Jack Bauer: You've got to at least tell him what's going on
- General Gratz: In order to exploit the advantages of a surprise attack: we've lost twelve bomb squad squadrons from three state side bases. But initial air strikes will be launched from our bases in the region. Sir, that is consistent with your request to begin before your address to the nation
- President David Palmer: I know what I asked for, that came out wrong. You and the Joint Chiefs have done a remarkable job mobilizing our forces on such short notice
- General Gratz: Thank you Sir
- Vice President Jim Prescott: Mr. President, is it fair to assume that you're still behind the attack? Because I'm sensing some "equivocation."
- President David Palmer: I told the Vice President but I haven't shared this with the rest of you. Jack Bauer, the CTU agent most responsible for finding the nuclear bomb has reason to believe that the Cypress audio was fabricated
- Vice President Jim Prescott: Bauer has no hard evidence
- President David Palmer: Not at this point
- General Gratz: Mr. President, this battle plan requires our surprising the enemy with an initial strike of overwhelming force. We will lose that if we wait any longer, the target will mobilize their defenses and our casualties will increase over the long term
- President David Palmer: By how much?
- General Gratz: By twenty thousand troops
- President David Palmer: And we have no choice but to proceed with the plan stated?
- Yusuf Auda: [while examining it through a magnifying glass] we can't go anywhere with this memory chip
- Jack Bauer: Why not?
- Yusuf Auda: Look at this: imbedded inside the silicon
- Jack Bauer: What is it?
- Yusuf Auda: Some of kind transponder. It acts like a tracking device
- Jack Bauer: Are you sure?
- Yusuf Auda: Yeah, our group uses circuits like this to track "sensitive material"
- Kate Warner: I don't understand
- Jack Bauer: Whoever Wallace stole the chip from can track it. That's how they tracked him to the warehouse
- Yusuf Auda: And they'll find us if I don't disconnect it from the chip first
- Jack Bauer: Can you do it without destroying the audio file?
- Yusuf Auda: I think so
- Jack Bauer: Good
- Michelle Dessler: [Over the phone] you have to stop doing this. I told you not to call, I'm sorry your upset but I don't have time for this
- Danny Dessler: Why? What's going on?
- Michelle Dessler: Nothing
- Danny Dessler: Well, what am I suppose to do?
- Michelle Dessler: Just sit tight: I'll call you as soon as I get a chance
- Tony Almeida: Hey
- Michelle Dessler: There's something wrong with the phones
- Tony Almeida: Yeah: the network's been overloaded ever since news of the bomb broke. Who you talking to?
- Michelle Dessler: No one. What's going on?
- Tony Almeida: Jack just called, he said his got the evidence from Wallace
- Michelle Dessler: Does the President know?
- Tony Almeida: No, we haven't confirmed it's authentic yet
- Michelle Dessler: The President is acting on the assumption the Cypress recording is real
- Tony Almeida: And this evidence may prove it's not
- Michelle Dessler: You've got to call the President
- Tony Almeida: I'll think about it
- Mike Novick: I waited until the meeting broke to tell you that the Governor called from Sacramento
- President David Palmer: What's going on now?
- Mike Novick: More people are hitting the streets: the government wants you to dispatch the National Guard like you did in Murrieta
- Lynne Kresge: Mr. President, Tony Almeida from CTU is holding for you on the emergency SAT COM network
- President David Palmer: Why on SAT COM?
- Lynne Kresge: Since news of the bomb got out network circuits have been completely overloaded. Ninety percent of all systems went down a few minutes ago
- Mike Novick: I can talk to Almeida if you want
- President David Palmer: [to Mike] put him on speaker
- President David Palmer: Mr. Almeida, this is President Palmer. You're also on with Mike Novick and Lynne Kresge
- Tony Almeida: Mr. President, Jack Bauer just called with some new information and the truth is I'm a little conflicted about contacting you with this but he "claims", he has evidence that the Cypress recording is counterfeit
- President David Palmer: What kind of evidence?
- Lynne Kresge: Source recording on three Middle Eastern men on the audio which were then re-edited
- President David Palmer: Have these been authenticated?
- Tony Almeida: Not yet. We're getting it soon
- President David Palmer: How soon?
- Tony Almeida: Within the hour Sir
- Mike Novick: Mr. Almeida, your confidence in Jack Bauer is curious. An hour ago you told me he assaulted CTU personnel and took illegal custody of a witness
- Lynne Kresge: Sir, Jack had no choice under the circumstances
- Mike Novick: I don't follow
- Tony Almeida: The man who had the evidence would not have turned it over if Jack involved CTU
- President David Palmer: Mr. Almeida, what makes you so sure that this is any more real than the Cypress recording?
- Tony Almeida: That's just it Sir. I'm not
- President David Palmer: Thank you for your candor, Mr. Almeida. I'll take this information under advisement
- Tony Almeida: [Before hanging up] thank you Mr. President
- President David Palmer: We're calling off the attack
- Mike Novick: Sir, before you do that, we should talk through the consequences
- President David Palmer: We've talked enough
- Mike Novick: Mr. President, I appreciate your respect for Jack Bauer: I do, but you know the man's reputation
- President David Palmer: I know the man
- Mike Novick: Then maybe you should think about your reputation
- President David Palmer: Meaning?
- Mike Novick: A nuclear bomb was detonated on US soil and we've been shown proof connecting the weapon to three nations in the Middle East
- President David Palmer: Proof that maybe false
- Mike Novick: Unless you respond decisively, your enemies will exploit that as a failure of leadership. It's a sign of personal weakness
- President David Palmer: So, what're you saying? That we should proceed with a military operation just to prove I'm decisive? What if Jack Bauer is right?
- Mike Novick: What if his wrong?
- Mike Novick: Sir, we've all heard the Pentagon's assessment. Stopping and restarting this military action could cost tens of thousands of American lives
- President David Palmer: It's an "acceptable" risk, if the alternative is raging war against three innocent countries
- Mike Novick: Mr. President, we know from past experience these countries aren't innocent. I'm urging you in the strongest possible terms to reconsider
- President David Palmer: I've made up my mind. Now get General Gratz back in here and conference in the Joint Chiefs
- Tony Almeida: Hey, look: I just wanted you to know that I told the President about Jack
- Michelle Dessler: You did?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah, if Jack has what he says he has, the President should know about it
- Michelle Dessler: How did he react?
- Tony Almeida: He wants us to keep him apprised of the situation
- Michelle Dessler: You did the right thing
- Tony Almeida: We'll find out when Jack gets here with that chip
- Michelle Dessler: How long did he say?
- Tony Almeida: About twenty minutes. Look, when he does get here, I want you to make sure that thing's real
- Michelle Dessler: I'll pull up the CPD software right now
- Michelle Dessler: Alright, thanks
- Yusuf Auda: [while driving to CTU to bring them the memory chip] still no signal?
- Kate Warner: No, I have a signal I just can't through: I keep getting a recording
- Yusuf Auda: From CTU's end, I'm sure their very busy gearing up for the war against my country
- Kate Warner: There won't be a war. They'll get the chip, they're going to know the truth
- Yusuf Auda: Assuming they want the truth
- Kate Warner: They don't want war
- Yusuf Auda: [Referring to the location where they will meet Jack] you sure about that? You might feel differently if it was your family being threatened. Highland and Mort Park right?
- Kate Warner: Yeah
- Danny Dessler: How are you? You ok?
- Michelle Dessler: Yeah, fine. What are you doing here?
- Danny Dessler: I just wanted to talk to you
- Michelle Dessler: We were talking: then you hung up on me
- Danny Dessler: I know. I tried to call you back but the phones weren't working
- Michelle Dessler: So you came here two thirty in the morning? I don't have time for this right now
- Danny Dessler: I just wanted to apologize to you face to face, for yelling at you before. I'm sorry
- Michelle Dessler: Apology accepted, but you have to go now ok?
- Danny Dessler: It's just this whole thing with the bomb and it's not just me. The people are freaked. Their afraid of what's going to happen next, they don't know what to do
- Michelle Dessler: It's going to be ok
- Danny Dessler: Yeah?
- Michelle Dessler: Yeah. We're taking care of things here. Why don't you go home and get some sleep? I'll come over as soon as I can
- Michelle Dessler: [after he sees Carrie talking to Tony] look, ignore her
- Danny Dessler: You didn't tell me she was working here
- Michelle Dessler: She isn't working here. We're short handed
- Tony Almeida: [Over the phone] hey, have you heard anything about your brother yet?
- Michelle Dessler: Yeah: they sedated him. They said they'd call me when he wakes up
- Tony Almeida: How are you holding up?
- Michelle Dessler: Ok, you?
- Tony Almeida: I'm ok
- Michelle Dessler: [Referring to them kissing] listen, about what happened before, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have...
- Tony Almeida: [Interrupts her] no, don't be sorry. I'm not
- Michelle Dessler: Really?
- Tony Almeida: Really
- Michelle Dessler: What about Carrie?
- Tony Almeida: Don't worry about Carrie
- Michelle Dessler: No, I know her, she's not going to let this go
- Tony Almeida: Look, it's none of her business. It's going to be ok
- Michelle Dessler: Alright
- Mike Novick: [Over the phone] I'm starting to question the President's dedication
- General Gratz: Believe me General, this is not a decision he made lightly
- General Gratz: I haven't been briefed on this
- Mike Novick: The President has every intention on explaining his decision to you personally: until he does, you should brief your staff
- General Gratz: Alright, I'll take care of it
- Mike Novick: [Before hanging up] thank you for your patience
- Lynne Kresge: More blowback?
- Mike Novick: And then some
- Lynne Kresge: Have you heard about this meeting the Vice President called?
- Mike Novick: Meeting?
- Lynne Kresge: Apparently his asked Cabinet members to be on hand an hour and a half from now
- Mike Novick: What's the agenda?
- Lynne Kresge: I don't know. Because I wasn't invited
- Mike Novick: Who told you about this meeting?
- Lynne Kresge: It was someone on Genler's staff but he didn't know anymore than what I'm telling you
- Mike Novick: Are you thinking it has something to do with the President calling off the military strike?
- Lynne Kresge: What else could it be?
- Mike Novick: Did you tell the President about this?
- Lynne Kresge: No, not yet. Not until I find out more, for all I know it could just be a rumor
- Mike Novick: That's probably all it is. But I'll ask around anyway
- Lynne Kresge: Alright, keep me posted if you hear anything alright?
- Peter Kingsley: [Over the phone] do you have the chip?
- Ronnie Stark: Not yet: I'm with the agent who took it off Wallace
- Peter Kingsley: It was Jack Bauer, wasn't it?
- Ronnie Stark: Yes sir. We've scanned his body, his clothing, and induced vomiting to check his stomach's contents
- Ronnie Stark: It's a waste of time: his not going to have it on him. Let me talk to him
- Carrie Turner: You wanted to see me?
- Michelle Dessler: Jack's bringing the chip in
- Carrie Turner: Yeah that's what Tony said
- Michelle Dessler: Well, he wants me to run point on the analysis and I'm having trouble running the CPD software
- Carrie Turner: No problem: just send it to my screen, I'll do it
- Michelle Dessler: No, I just need you to unlock the indexing function
- Carrie Turner: And I said I would do it
- Michelle Dessler: [Raising her voice] I don't need you to do it, I just need you to unlock the indexing function
- Carrie Turner: What is your problem?
- Michelle Dessler: You know what? You've been gunning for my job since you got here
- Tony Almeida: [Over the phone] can I see you up here?
- Michelle Dessler: Yeah sure
- Michelle Dessler: [to Carrie] just do what I ask
- Carrie Turner: Fine
- Tony Almeida: [while in his office] so, what was that about?
- Michelle Dessler: What?
- Tony Almeida: You and Carrie: what were you arguing about?
- Michelle Dessler: It's nothing. I asked her to open some CPD software and she's making me "jump through hoops"
- Tony Almeida: I know you don't want to tell me, but whatever bad blood there's between the two of you, I got to know what it is
- Michelle Dessler: It doesn't matter, especially with everything going on today
- Tony Almeida: That's exactly why it does matter. It's interfering with your work, now what's the problem?
- Michelle Dessler: When I worked with Carrie over at Division, we were friends. I introduced her to my brother, he was married with kids. He left them for her, then she got bored, and she dumped him. Danny lost everything, his family, his job, and it got so bad he tried to kill himself
- Tony Almeida: Look, its unfortunate you two have to work together, but you do, and I've got to keep this office running today alright?
- Michelle Dessler: I understand
- Tony Almeida: Good
- Mike Novick: [Talking privately] you were right about the meeting: it's not a rumor. Prescott's calling Cabinet members personally to set it up
- Lynne Kresge: Is this about the President's decision to call off the attack?
- Mike Novick: I don't know yet. I have a source at Defense says he has information and has agreed to meet me
- Lynne Kresge: Who is it?
- Mike Novick: His name is Jesper Isenberg but he won't tell me over the phone
- Lynne Kresge: When are you meeting him?
- Mike Novick: Now
- Lynne Kresge: Where?
- Mike Novick: I don't think you should be there. It might spook him
- Lynne Kresge: I'm the one that brought you into this and I want hear everything first hand before we take this to the President
- Mike Novick: There's a room upstairs, 522. It's used for storage
- Lynne Kresge: I'll meet you there
- Tony Almeida: [Stopping her in a hallway] where are you going?
- Michelle Dessler: I was just going over to IT: I'm still trying to access the CPD software
- Tony Almeida: IT's the other way
- Michelle Dessler: I just need a minute
- Tony Almeida: Carrier's going to be fine
- Michelle Dessler: [Referring to Danny grabbing her neck] is she going to press charges?
- Tony Almeida: No, I don't think so
- Michelle Dessler: It's all my fault. I should've seen it coming
- Tony Almeida: Its family, it happens
- Michelle Dessler: His my brother, maybe I should've told him about the bomb
- Tony Almeida: It was a tough choice, by the way you were right
- Michelle Dessler: [becoming upset] nothing I've done today is "right", all these people today and this recording if we're right about that. I can't do this anymore
- Tony Almeida: [Slowly hugs her] come on, come here
- Michelle Dessler: I'm so tired. I'm so scared
- Tony Almeida: [Before kissing] it's ok
- Carrie Turner: [Interrupts them] Tony, Chappelle's looking for you
- Tony Almeida: Yeah, ok
- Ryan Chappelle: [Answering the phone] Chappelle
- Tony Almeida: Ryan, its Tony Almeida: I was told you were trying to reach me?
- Ryan Chappelle: [Sarcastically] thanks for getting back to me so soon. Congratulations on the promotion
- Tony Almeida: I wish it could be under better circumstances
- Ryan Chappelle: Yeah, Mason was a good man
- Tony Almeida: Yeah he was. Look, we're pretty busy around here...
- Ryan Chappelle: [Interrupts him] yeah I wanted to give you a heads up
- Tony Almeida: About what?
- Ryan Chappelle: I'm on my way over with a couple keys from Division
- Tony Almeida: Why?
- Ryan Chappelle: I thought you could use some help with all that's going on
- Tony Almeida: We're doing pretty well here, thanks
- Ryan Chappelle: I'm sure you are. I'll see you in thirty minutes
- Peter Kingsley: [Over the phone, referring to torturing Jack Bauer to find out where his hidden the memory chip] have you made any progress?
- Ronnie Stark: We're still working on it
- Peter Kingsley: I told you: there's a time issue
- Ronnie Stark: Yes sir, you told me
- Peter Kingsley: You do not want to disappoint me on this. Get me that chip
- Lynne Kresge: [Meeting privately] so where's this person we're meeting?
- Mike Novick: He'll be here soon
- Lynne Kresge: So have you heard anything on why Prescott would call this meeting with the Cabinet members behind the President's back?
- Mike Novick: We knew there'd be consequences within the Administration: nothing like this
- Lynne Kresge: [Confused] like what?
- Mike Novick: What do you know about section four of the twenty-fifth Amendment?
- Lynne Kresge: It provides if the majority of his Cabinet feels his unfit to fulfill his duties, the President could be removed from office
- Mike Novick: And the Vice President becomes President
- Lynne Kresge: [Shocked] Prescott can't do this
- Mike Novick: [Referring to Jesper Isberg] before we talk to him, I need to know where you stand vis-à-vis the President's decision
- Lynne Kresge: Are you questioning my loyalty?
- Mike Novick: There's going to be a lot of lobbying among the Cabinet. I need to know where you stand
- Lynne Kresge: Look, I may not agree with the President's decision but it was his decision to make and as far as I'm concerned Prescott should be charged with treason
- Mike Novick: Are you sure that's how you feel?
- Lynne Kresge: Yes
- Mike Novick: I was afraid you'd say that
