Quotes

  • Lynne Kresge : Sir, we have to talk about Ron Wieland

President David Palmer : What about him? Does anybody know we have sequestered?

Lynne Kresge : Well, no but Jenny just got a call from Wieland's production crew: they haven't seen him for the last four hours and pretty soon they'll figure out the last person they saw him with was you

President David Palmer : [after entering the room]  then leak a story

Mike Novick : [while shaking hands]  good to see you

President David Palmer : I got here as soon as I could, I spoke to Armus, he brought me up to speed on the Wieland situation. I did some research I found out there is a precedent for the Executive branch taking action against the press in times of national crisis

Lynne Kresge : So, when you say "leak a story", what kind of story?

Mike Novick : Make it appear as though Wieland went to Portland for the rest of the day on a "personal matter." Armus can arrange that. it's a band aid but it'll get us through the day

President David Palmer : [to Lynn]  talk to Armus, put it in motion

Lynne Kresge : [Before leaving the room]  yes Sir

Mike Novick : I saw Sherry on my way in, should I attach any significance to that?

President David Palmer : It was her decision to come here

President David Palmer : That's what she said but I'm surprised you're "allowing" her to stay

President David Palmer : For the time being. Let's go to the OC, I'll bring you up to speed, there's a lot to cover

  • Mike Novick : Just because Sherry tells you there's a conspiracy in the government array against you doesn't make it true

President David Palmer : But if it is true, it'll affect every aspect in our response to this bomb. Sherry was right about the military evacuation out of Los Angeles

Mike Novick : That's specific information: she still has well-rounded sources. A conspiracy? Don't forget where she's coming from. She may have her own agenda Mr. President

President David Palmer : I'm well aware of that. She's on a tight leash, I want to find her source

Mike Novick : Let me look into this so called "cabal" against you. If there's any substance to it, I'll uncover it. Right now the country needs your attention on the situation in LA

President David Palmer : Start with Stanton

Mike Novick : Stanton? The head of NSA? Conspiring against the President of the United States? Aside from the enormous implication if that were true, hasn't he always been an ally to you?

President David Palmer : Yes. His also Eric Rayburn's boss. It's not inconceivable that his doing Rayburn's bidding. Those two have always been on the same page

Mike Novick : It's not enough to indict him

President David Palmer : I know. That's why I want you to check him out. I hope you can prove me wrong

  • President David Palmer : Update me

Lynne Kresge : CTU Los Angeles is yielding the most promising leads: they raided a warehouse this morning within city limits and they found weapons grade nuclear material. Langley is using satellite playback as we speak to determine who was there

President David Palmer : Suspect was killed?

Lynne Kresge : There was a shootout, Division is having a hard time ID'ing the body

President David Palmer : What's this?

Lynne Kresge : Apparently Jack Bauer is still in the investigation

President David Palmer : I thought he was dismissed after he completed this morning's assignment?

Lynne Kresge : No, his heading the team that's tracking Mamud Faheen and Nina Meyers, the woman you granted immunity to this morning, she's helping them

President David Palmer : [Surprised]  Jack Bauer and Nina Meyers are working together?

Lynne Kresge : Yes Sir, I believe he volunteered

  • President David Palmer : [while entering the room]  good afternoon, oh you two haven't been formally introduced: Lynne Kresge, Sherry Palmer

Lynne Kresge : [after shaking hands with Sherry]  Mr. President, there were a few guidelines from Director Stanton I wanted to go over with you in this meeting

President David Palmer : Lynn, I have invoked Executive Privilege and have granted Sherry a provisional security clearance

    Lynne Kresge : I see

President David Palmer : This meeting is about the possibility that people inside this Administration who may be organizing against me

Lynne Kresge : [Surprised]  against you?

Sherry Palmer : [while holding his hand]  maybe you should bring Lynn up to speed on where we stand with Roger Stanton

Lynne Kresge : [after sitting down]  Mr. President?

President David Palmer : Lynn, I'm sorry but things have been happening too fast today. Our problems are compounded by the possibility of a dissenting faction

Lynne Kresge : And do you think Roger might be a part of that?

President David Palmer : It's possible

Lynne Kresge : If you don't mind me asking Sir what lead you to this hypothesis?

Sherry Palmer : It troubles me to articulate this Lynn but the ambassador's helicopter accident solved a lot of Roger's issues

Lynne Kresge : Sir, those issues were shared...

Sherry Palmer : I am so sorry to interrupt but there's something else you probably don't know Lynn and that is Roger Stanton has been having secret meetings with the minority leader in the Senate and Eric Rayburn has been in attendance

Lynne Kresge : Well, actually Sherry I am aware of those meetings. Their trying to forge bi-partisan base in order to stop "questionable" allocations that were being made by the Armed Services Committee and Sir the only reason I did not brief you on this earlier is because the vote is not for another two months but I have detailed records if you would like to take a look at them

President David Palmer : This doesn't solve any of our problems today. We've got to avert a disaster. We can't do that if our own people are working against us. Now I need to know Roger Stanton is supporting this administration

Sherry Palmer : I'm already working alongside Roger, Lynn I'd like you to keep track of your conversations with him as well. Now I've put together a list of people on the Hill who might be able to help in this matter

  • Sherry Palmer : [Talking privately]  I know your uncomfortable of me taking some of these tasks from you. After all I'm not "officially" on David's staff

Lynne Kresge : Mrs. Palmer my discomfort has nothing to do with you being on his staff, my only concern is to protect and serve the President. I need to know the people around him are competent. I simply don't know you

Sherry Palmer : Well, you seem like a pretty smart woman Lynn, so let me explain something to you clearly? David did not get here by himself: his had competent people around him for his entire life. Obviously, your one of them. Not necessarily the best but just the most recent, so have some respect for those who help put him in office so we'll just might be able to help you

Lynne Kresge : [after noticing the President has been watching them talk, before leaving]  fair enough

President David Palmer : Be careful Sherry, I need Lynn. Don't turn this into a competition

Sherry Palmer : I understand. I just need her to know that I'm not just here as "window dressing"

President David Palmer : I'm sure she got the message

    Sherry Palmer : I'll behave. I promise

President David Palmer : I don't have a lot of friends here today. In fact it seems like every time I turn around, somebody's always advising me to send you away

Sherry Palmer : Then why don't you?

President David Palmer : Because you may be the only one who can get information no one else can
