Alan Milliken : [Over the phone] what do you want?
Wayne Palmer : You know I always thought you had more balls than to threaten me through my brother but you can't talk to me man to man?
Alan Milliken : I don't owe you an explanation. You slept with my wife
Wayne Palmer : That's between you and me
Alan Milliken : Fine. Step down, then it all goes away
Wayne Palmer : That's not your decision
Alan Milliken : We'll see
President David Palmer : [Surprising Wayne by walking up behind him] who are you talking to?
Wayne Palmer : Alan Milliken
President David Palmer : The hell you think you're doing?
Wayne Palmer : [Before handing David the phone] cleaning up my own mess
President David Palmer : Hello Alan
Alan Milliken : That brother of yours is going to be your undoing
President David Palmer : I am not firing my brother
Alan Milliken : That's too bad
President David Palmer : And I have no intention on losing my health care bill. I spent two years putting it together
Alan Milliken : Except your three votes short last time I checked, you better brace yourself for some disappointment
President David Palmer : I don't want to go to war with you
Alan Milliken : It's your choice Mr. President
President David Palmer : The choice you're giving me is unacceptable, there has to be another way to work this out
Alan Milliken : On any other issue I'd bend over backwards for you: not on this one
President David Palmer : Then you have only yourself to blame for the consequences and I promise you, you won't like them
-
President David Palmer : Please have a seat
Sherry Palmer : No thank you, I'd rather stand: so how are things with Anne?
President David Palmer : Their fine
Sherry Palmer : Good, I'm glad. You deserve a little bit of happiness
President David Palmer : Thank you. You're looking well but somehow different
Sherry Palmer : A little older?
President David Palmer : No, it's not that. You look calm
Sherry Palmer : Tired? Maybe but I'm not exactly sure how "calm"
President David Palmer : I know these last three years have been difficult
Sherry Palmer : Not as "difficult" as they could've been and I have you to thank for that, kept me out of prison, and away from public humiliation. I lost a lot but most of it, I discovered wasn't really that important to begin with which surprised me, imagine that
Sherry Palmer : [after David chuckles] what? What's funny?
President David Palmer : No, nothing really. It's just when I want you to pull back, just let things be, you were a shark. Now that I've asked you back, I need you to be a shark
Sherry Palmer : I can still be whatever you need me to be
Sherry Palmer : [after he helps her take off her coat and purse] thank you. So you say you're having some kind of trouble with Milliken?
President David Palmer : Yes, I am
Sherry Palmer : Ok, tell me all about it
-
President David Palmer : Bottom line is Alan's determined to see Wayne removed: even if that means destroying my Presidency
Sherry Palmer : And you've tried to work this out peacefully?
President David Palmer : Of course, Alan wouldn't budge. In Alan's mind it's a matter of pride
Sherry Palmer : So, you want me to find something you can use against Alan?
President David Palmer : [Leans forward on his desk] I've always known you knew things about Alan that you didn't tell me because of my friendship with him
Sherry Palmer : And I've always known that you were too smart to ask
President David Palmer : I guess we were both right
Sherry Palmer : Alan does have some skeletons in his closet that he would guard at any cost. One in particular comes to mind but I must warn you it's a big one
President David Palmer : What is it?
Sherry Palmer : All you need to know is that if you play this card you and Alan will be enemies for the rest of your life
President David Palmer : As far as I'm concerned our friendship ended when he tried to extort me
Sherry Palmer : [Stands up] then I can help you
-
President David Palmer : [Answering his call over the speakerphone with Wayne listening] yes Alan?
Alan Milliken : What the hell do you think you're doing?
President David Palmer : What're you talking about?
Alan Milliken : Don't screw with me
President David Palmer : I didn't pick this fight
Alan Milliken : You think you can enlist your psychopathic ex-wife to manufacture lies about me in order to bring me down? It's not going to happen
President David Palmer : You want it to stop? Keep your hands off my health care bill and stay away from my brother
Alan Milliken : You got it backwards: your brother should've stayed away from my wife
President David Palmer : Come on, it's over
Alan Milliken : [while on his computer] really? I'm looking at photographs of her and Wayne together an hour ago
President David Palmer : He was just trying to convince her into talking some sense to you
Alan Milliken : I'm warning you, pull Sherry off this or the health care bill will be the least of your problems
President David Palmer : [after Alan hangs up] Alan's scared
Wayne Palmer : Alan's the most dangerous when his scared
-
President David Palmer : I just got off the phone with Alan Milliken
Sherry Palmer : [after she closes the door] blowback happened quickly huh?
President David Palmer : Uh huh
Sherry Palmer : I guess he was pretty upset
President David Palmer : What've you been up to?
Sherry Palmer : Exactly what you asked me to do: I'm fighting back
President David Palmer : What's Sugarland Falls? And what happened there?
Sherry Palmer : Well, it's "something" Alan wants to keep buried but I'm going to tell you everything but not just now, I've got a lot to get done in a very short time if I'm going to pull this off for you
