Major Events, But None Really Surprising
ccthemovieman-18 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Despite a few personal comments here, make no mistake: I am enjoying this fourth season. It is very entertaining. But, I wasn't surprised to see a lot of things happen in this important episode. For some reason, the writers didn't really disguise some big plots and subplots here. In other words, you could see them coming a long way off.

For instance, you knew that "Behrooz," the teenage son of the terrorist "Ariz" family is going to be trouble and isn't really with the program as are his mom and dad. I question whether in real life this kid would have been trusted to be part of this, although the father here recognizes that near the end of the episode, having planned to get rid of him. However, the guy he sends to do the job, gives it away by having his gun easily seen sticking out of his pants??! I don't think so!!!

We find out "Marianne" is the mole. This is only my second year watching this program but it seems like that is a recurring theme - someone inside the C.T.U. is crooked and working for the enemy. Since Marianne was portrayed as bad news right from the start, it is no surprise it's her. Even in two years, I shake my head many times wondering how a high-security place like this would hire ANY of these people because they all so untrustworthy and few of them ever can take orders, either! Again, it wouldn't happen.

Despite those and numerous other "holes" that are improbable, the show - and this episode is a prime example - gives us plenty of good things to go with the bad and almost always provides entertainment, which is why we are watching it in the first place. So, I don't mean to nit-pick on certain things, but if you get involved with the story, you can't help it. Some twists and turns are clever and other things make absolutely no sense.

Anyway, it is good to see Jack and C.T.U. Director Erin Driscoll, albeit reluctantly, on the same page instead the latter impeding his progress all the time. This program loves to show Jack knowing far more than the rest of the shaky C.T.U. team put together!

Finally, and this was no surprise either since the show is only a fourth over with for the season, we find out the REAL target and aim of these terrorists. That other stuff - the train bombing and the attempt to assassinate the Secretary of Defense and show it on the Internet - is all a setup for the big show: the takeover of all 104 nuclear power plants in the U.S.! (Well, you might as well aim high.)

Jack to the rescue
MaxBorg8910 February 2009
In a very typical move for this show, the original premise is resolved within six or seven episodes, allowing for the real, scarier plot to be unveiled. We also get our first glimpse (well, not really: he's just mentioned) of the season's primary villain, although, based on the program's track record, he might answer to some higher authority (or maybe not: even that has become a cliché).

With the military ready to bomb the compound where Secretary Heller and Audrey are being held captive, Jack must act quickly in order to save them. Translation: we need a shootout. Elsewhere in town, Dina Araz is surprised (?) to find out her husband and his boss, a certain Marwan, are planning to kill her son because of the Debbie incident, and Curtis makes a rather shocking discovery concerning the terrorists' real intentions.

From a technical standpoint, this is an excellent episode: the rescue mission is carried out with Michael Mann-like precision, both on-screen and off, and the general pace of the show leads to the complete absence of any dull moments. The problem, so to speak, lies in a slightly exaggerated plot twist. I mean, the terrorists staged the train bombing seen in the first episode so they could steal a device that allows them to control all 104 nuclear plants in the States? That's a tad far-fetched even by this series' standards. Still, with the right villain doing this (and the producers have always had good eye for casting in that department) and Jack Bauer trying to stop him, a little credibility-stretching doesn't sound so alarming.

Non Stop Action and the Revealing of a Villain
Hitchcoc27 January 2019
The episode begins with the attack on the compound just as Heller is beginning to speak to the camera. Jack makes his way in. In most shows, this part would have been the end. But there are obviously bigger fish to fry. Heller and daughter are brought to CTU and Heller shows what an absolute crud he is. His son has been tortured from the moment he got there and Heller makes a harsh decision. Also, the estranged husband of Heller's daughter shows up and we can see that he is up to no good. In the final minutes of this episode we are introduced too the fly in the ointment.

Another joke of an episode

Warning: Spoilers
Jack Bauer goes into the camp of terrorists, kills dozens of heavily armed terrorists, rescues all hostages with a small handgun within a window of 5 minutes and once again proves that he is the God himself. This is ridiculous even for 24 which known to be cartoony and extremely over the top.

Why do we even need to have a military force when we can simply send Jack Bauer and win every war? He could wipe out entire armies with nothing but a handgun.
