Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILER** I say obvious because Jack Cassidy had those looks that just said "snake oil". He played those kind of parts to great effect in his career, and he did it well; it's always been a pleasure watching and waiting for him to betray somebody. Evan when he didn't he made a perfect foil or red herring for the real bad guy to shunt accusations away from himself. He was great. Dyan Cannon, well, she's okay as an actress, but they didn't give her much of a part; except as a dummy who did whatever someone on a telephone tells her to. Yeah, I know; if wasn't for THAT, would they have a show? I've said it myself. Bull. Sometimes, you should expect more from screenwriters than cheap, quick, pulp. I really would've liked to see Miss Cannon have something more to do than be a stooge. I know, I know; she shot a real rat and thought she killed him; big deal. Now, if she HAD killed him; THAT would've been interesting. Anyway, we were treated to some fine acting from this fine actress.

Did they misspell Bridle Trail deliberately? One thing that was interesting was the interplay between LAPD and "77", and the way Jeff and Logan used a walkie-talkie to communicate. It was obviously HAM Radio, and I'll bet some of he real operators could have insights as to how accurately it was used; I know that I'm not the only one who's wondered why car phones, C.B. radio and Portable Ham sets weren't more of a staple in these detective shows. It just took this episode to remind me of it.

Getting back to Dyan, she was without her legendary smile, or shimmering blonde hair in this performance, and yet she was memorable. I've always loved her acting, even if she IS a blonde. The shot that brought down the killer missed him by a mile (or Smile, if it's supposed to be funny), hitting just to the left of his left foot as he scrambled up a dirt pile. Sad for the stuntman who, no doubt was hoping for a real challenge.. The usual "Happy, Shining People Holding Hands" ending; it was enough to put a goat off his feed. Not a terrible episode, and Louis Quinn and Jacqueline Beer did get to play solid support parts, so not a washout.

There goes the bride

I'm not quite anyone ever had quite as interesting a wedding night as Forrest Compton and Dyan Cannon. Good thing they had Roger Smith and Robert Logan around to see it came off at all.

What they didn't need was gossip columnist Bartlett Robinson around to provide commentary. I was so waiting for either Compton or Smith to give him the heave ho.

It all starts when a former boyfriend of Cannon's, a broken down and drunk rodeo cowboy fakes a shooting of himself by her. But later it's a real body discovered and some real blackmail attempted by person or persons unknown.

Of course Bailey&Spencer are on the job. All the resources of the firm are working except Efrem Zimbalist.

Note a couple of other interesting performances. Don Barry as a liquor store owner who imbibes a bit too much of his own product and Jack Cassidy as Compton's indispensable secretary and man Friday.
