The White Ballot
Prismark1028 October 2020
By this point actor Clifton James was typecast as a redneck southern sheriff. He played the part in two James Bond movies as well as Superman II.

Here he is also corrupt. Sheriff Jake Dawson is running for reelection and he will let no one stand in the way of a successful bid. A newspaper reporter who planned to expose him, gets a beating.

The reporter goes to The A Team and Hannibal has a plan. Get Face to run as a rival by pretending to be a returning hometown hero from the war. Amy pretends to be his wife.

This puts The A Team on a collision course with Colonel Decker. It's all part of the plan.

There is some nice stunt work here. It is noticeable again The A Team have used an alternative approach to using guns to take out the bad guys. They resort to tar and feathering at one point.

This was Melinda Culea's final episode.

The white ballot

A fair episode that features a grand invented "weapon" featuring tar against the crooked sheriff and his boys at the finale - the rest of the episode is ok, nothing too standout, though by the end Murdock was inspired to be the president. You know he would probably do a great job. Clifton James predictably casted as the redneck sherif, and of course he is less of a caricature than in the Bond movies he appeared in. Andrew Robinson is always a good presence.

Fighting back against small town bigotry

Warning: Spoilers
THE WHITE BALLOT is another A-TEAM episode in which the boys help to fight back against small-town bigotry encapsulated in the form of a corrupt sheriff and his deputies. Stylistically, it's similar to FIRST BLOOD, recalling favourably Brian Dennehy and his small-town tyranny in that movie. The story that plays out features the requisite action and laughs, and there's a nice supporting role from Andrew Robinson, who had a fine line in playing weaselly bad guys.

Final appearance of Amy
safenoe13 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The White Ballot represents the final appearance of Melinda Culea as Amy, which was a shame because when I became a fan of The A-Team back in the 1980s when it debuted to much popularity, I thought that Amy provide a welcome counterbalance to the rest of the team and all init. But I remember at the time, there was a lot of controversy about Melinda Culea being dropped, because she demanded more character development for Amy, but unfortunately her demand (being reasonable in my humble opinion) fell on deaf ears, so she was unfortunately dropped. Anyway, the dynamic changed once Amy left which is a shame.

A-Team vs Dirty Sheriff
70s_Connoisseur10 August 2023
This is a classic A-Team episode that is fun to watch. Corrupt Sheriff Dawson provides protection to an illegal casino is threaten by a reporter. The reporter is an acquaintance of Amy. Hannibal has a plan to run Faceman as a candidate against the sheriff. The best scene of this episode occurs when Faceman returns to town and refuses the key to the city. He insults the sheriff in front of cameras and the whole town.

Things get interesting when Decker is given information that Faceman is in New Mexico and Sheriff Dawson is also finds out Faceman is a fraud. This was Amy's final episode. Good fight scenes and car crashes.
